Thought this was worth mentioning - when you experience lag problems it's really easy to assume malice or incompetence because pretty much everyone is used to static networks that almost always work (at home, in the office, or wherever else). We have to configure and roll out a network in less than 24 hours - every event. And only get to test it properly/under load when people actually start arriving (sadly we don't have 450 test computers ). Other people involved in large LANs will be able to relate to this - it's really hard to make something like that reliably perform well. Unless you're torrenting or otherwise doing something you shouldn't be, we don't deliberately slow down access. It might be our fault, or it might be the venue's, or it might be divine intervention. But please bring it up with the network team so they can fix it if possible. |

QUOTE (TH.Zem @ Jan 29 2013, 12:08 AM) (Staff/Venue) That awful music turned up for who-knows-what reason -- Some of us are too old for that shit, and prefer to keep our hearing where it is. Barring that one incident, music choice (and volume) was fine. Are you talking about the Triple J number one song? |

QUOTE (Demonstalker @ Jan 8 2013, 11:49 AM) Hey man,
Some of us bring an esky to keep our drinks cold. The admins normally organize a pizza order and get a ton of pizzas (pay for your own).
If you wanted extra room all you need to do is buy an extra seat and book in both next to one another. There are also drinks available for sale. Regarding eskies, there is a risk that if they get knocked over water will spill all over the power distribution gear, which would be a very bad time indeed for all concerned. You'll have to check what the current rules are with Squid (they might not even be allowed anymore for all I know) but you may be advised to use sealed ice-packs instead of loose ice, and to keep them generally in a safe place. |

QUOTE (Jeffy @ Oct 14 2011, 05:30 PM) QUOTE (R4N @ Sep 29 2011, 11:05 PM) As for the announcement issue, I ask a question. How would you guys like to hear/be notified about competitions/food/other? The notifier is available on the EMS for anyone who needs it. We attempt to make regular updates/announcements about competitions over the PA. should we set up a VLC stream perhaps so you can hear announcements over headphones? I was just about to say, the feed from the projector with sound also pumped into a VLC Multicast stream that people can tune into would also help improve it. That way they can leave it running in the background. This is technically not too hard, and may warrant experimentation. |

QUOTE (Prim @ Jul 18 2011, 11:39 AM) Hey guys,
Not sure who is in charge of the respawn notifier, but it could use an upgraded feature. A way to find games people want to play multiplayer. Here's what I had in mind:
- Anyone can post (could have to be approved by admin, or if disapproved in case of troll, permaban from feature) - Post game, timeframe, ip (or how to join server), and any other notes - Could also be used for funcomps and similar (currently you say comp is running on IP x once and if you aren't listening you miss out on comp)
How does this sound? If it can't be done by you guys, mind if I make it myself and you help put it on the shared folder for easy spreading?
This way when people want to play obscure games, it should be easy to find a partner and make the lan more than just CSS and Team fortress.
Cheers, Primoz That would be Squid, Sando and me. Thanks for the feedback! This is an interesting idea and we're investigating it further. |

QUOTE (TechL @ Apr 18 2011, 01:59 AM) I don't remember them ever turning off the lights... There are a number of admins who handle the lights/heating/etc and for a while all of them were unexpectedly absent or incapable of doing that job for one reason or another. This was just sheer bad luck and unless people like having the lights on probably won't happen again. |
