So last time the internet was intentionally (? Still not sure on this) crippled, so much so that a lot of us couldn't even play our games. Will this be happening again/ to the same extent? Not much point going to a LAN if we cant all play games together.
Yo,
Which games didn't work?
We do limit a great deal of ports to prevent runaway applications, bittorrent etc from working as this would have a negative impact on the experience for everyone else.
Please let myself or SirSquid know next time this happens.
Sorry guys just saw these replies, glad to hear the rumours were just that. Thanks
Thought this was worth mentioning - when you experience lag problems it's really easy to assume malice or incompetence because pretty much everyone is used to static networks that almost always work (at home, in the office, or wherever else).
We have to configure and roll out a network in less than 24 hours - every event. And only get to test it properly/under load when people actually start arriving (sadly we don't have 450 test computers ). Other people involved in large LANs will be able to relate to this - it's really hard to make something like that reliably perform well.
Unless you're torrenting or otherwise doing something you shouldn't be, we don't deliberately slow down access. It might be our fault, or it might be the venue's, or it might be divine intervention. But please bring it up with the network team so they can fix it if possible.
