So there's been quite a few questions lately about what to do if you are late to respawn etcetc or if you want to save seats for friends etcetc.
let me just say that respawn does not currently have a "seat booking system" or a "seat allocation" system. Respawn LAN seating operates on a "first come, first serve" or "first in, best dressed(seated)" system. to gain best seats, or a large number of seats for friends you can arrive on time (10am on the saturday), and when you check-in, you can arrange to hold seats for friend. we can hold UNPAID seats untill 2pm ONLY.
Q: Can my friends reserve my seat?
A: Yes! if your friends pay for your seat, then you are as good as there!
Q: How will people know my seat is reserved?
A: We will print a custom reserved sign for you! and your friends can tape it to your place
Q: When can i get my seat reserved?
A: It really makes life easier if you organise this with us before hand! PM myself and we can work it out
Q: What if my friends can't pay for me, or I dont have friends attending, and i know i'm going to be late?
A: This depends on when you are going to arrive. Generally if you are in the top 400 players (or the maximum nuber of players for the event), and are CONFIRMED, and arrive before about 2pm, we can guarantee you a seat. After 2pmish, it's fairly free game.
Q: What if i'm confirmed, but on the waiting list?
A: If this is the case, and you arrive before 2pm, then we hold the right to refuse you entry. After 2pm we cannot guarantee you a seat, but your chances are better. If you are coming from a long way away (Far S-E suburbs, geelong, bendigo, etc) then PM me and we can work something out.
Q: What if my question isn't on this list, or i'm still confused?
A: Post in this thread, or PM me! i'm more than happy to answer questions
UPDATE:
We will be updating the website main page ( www.respawn.com.au ) with a LIVE! update of how many people have checked in! This will assist you, because you will be able to see how many people are in the venue vs how many seats are left
Sounds great, I'll be sure to send my bro up while I sleep in this time
I have a few questions Mr. Tank sir! (:
1. What's the go with location, is it the Bundoora Campus or the City Campus?! =S
2. What's the go with leaving, ciggy break, do we get to duck out for a little?
3. What's the file transfer rate at such lan events since this will be my first? <3
4. I CAN'T FKIN' WAIT TO GOOOOO! XD
Thanks alot sir and can't wait to be there,
adaM
So the player list has now been finalized at 425.
All top 425 players are guaranteed a seat before 2pm as long as they rock up and pay?
Or is it still just 400?
You're not on the waiting list, so if you rock up and pay, you're in!
Ah good, thanks.
Hi all
I have been to a few of these, however, my wife wants to come as well.
She does not want an extra PC slot, as she is mostly just gonna be doing work/watching movies on the laptop piggy backed off my power board.
Do I need to get her signed up and registered, or is she fine just to sit in on the laptop?
Cheers
Antycore
One would think if she took up a spot at the table thats one less player that can sit there, please correct me admins but wouldnt a laptop also take away from the calculated power draw, if all the boards were full with pc's.
hey Antycore,
Basically, becuase she's bringing some kind of computer, and using a seat space, and using power that's considered as a 'player spot'.
Thus she would be required to pay the entry fee of $30. (please note that this fee includes 1 x chair, Half a table, 1x power space, and 1 x network space. using up any one of these will mean that you need to pay the entry fee.)
The only people not required to pay the entry fee would be 'spectators', who are people who do not bring a computer, sit at a space, etc.
If you need me to further clarify any point, or askk further questions, please feel free
Thanks all,
Tank

I find it strange that when you register is when you get allocated a number in line and not when you confirm.
Personally i find it would be more fair to structure it so people have X amount of time to register....then when confirmations open it is determined THEN where people are in line.
The reasoning for this is that some people find out earlier then other that a respawn is on, because lets be honest not everyone refreshes the respawn page every couple of days. Also there are no email notifications....or at least i have never seen one in my inbox or spam box.
if everyone is aware of a single deadline date (after they register) then the people that _really_ _really_ want to go will be sitting there refreshing the confirmation page when it ticks over...the people that arn't that fussed will register the next day or so which gives the numbers a much more balanced look. Currently only people that are checking the page very reguarly or are friends with admins (due to admins possibly letting them know rego's are open or w/e) or are just lucky are the ones that are getting > 500.
sure the reply to this will be "check the page more noob" but that doesn't fix the general problem i see with the queue system.
everyone deserves the same chance as everyone else to reserve a spot, regardless of who they know etc.
Out of the 731 people registered i bet there are a bunch of people that have never been to a respawn before and really want to go but end up 500 > , i also bet there are a bunch of people that are half hearted about going but will be under 500 simply due to the above mentioned circumstances.
The downsides to this solution that i can currently see are crashing of the web server possibly at confirmation time (surely it could handle a couple of hundred people?) and people that are away on confirmation time due to RL issues, however im sure something could be arranged for them.
If there are other issues i haven't accounted for please tell me
/end rant
No system could ever be fair to every single person.
The system as it is takes in to account both people who are really eager and register early, and the people who register for the hell of it but don't ever confirm or come.
People who confirm are placed ahead of the people who don't confirm (aka, the shuffle) - no matter how early the person that doesn't confirm registers, they will not be ahead of the player who does confirm once the player list shuffle happens next week.
If you are unfortunate enough to have only just found out about Respawn and don't end up getting a seat when the shuffle happens, then after 3PM on the Saturday if there's still space left, we'll let you in regardless. If you want, PM me and I'll give you my mobile number so you can call me around that time to check about space.
Announcements regarding upcoming dates are also made http://respawn.com.au/?page=guides.irc, feel free to drop by every now and then to talk/ask questions/witness the messages in the topic.
Soooo can i ask how likely i am to get in here? I'd like to know before i lug my computer up from the S.E. suburbs whether or not imma be denied entry
There is normally a counter on the Respawn website once checkins start.
If the amount of people checked in is below around 450ish, then you may get a seat. If it's above that, your chances are almost zero. If it's below 400, you're pretty much guaranteed a seat.
Hi everyone I'm Currently "Waiting: 232" but i notice that there are a lot and i mean A LOT of unconfirmed in the top 500 and also on the waiting List does this mean i have a chance of getting a spot if i get there early? and what if you are a "confirmed"on the waiting list does that put you "above" an unconfirmed in the top 500?
Kind Regards,
Joel
Hi,
After the Player List Shuffle next week, all of the people who have confirmed are put ahead of the people who haven't confirmed. You will otherwise remain in the order you are in at the moment, but split in to the two groups.
Come Friday SATURDAY ... I meant Saturday morning, to be allowed in to the LAN as a player before 2PM, you must be in the top 500 - if you are on the 'waiting list', you must wait until after 2PM until you can bring in your PC, and only on the condition that there is still space for you.
Squid put it well.
I'm also pleased to announce that i believe that centrecom will be at the event. (presumably selling the usual )
i have a friend who hasnt registered or confirmed
is there any way they can come
what about without a computer, there's always space for spectators right?
also you can't get on the waiting list now
Yes and correct, Dekar.
spectators can ask for a spectator's badge thingy at the front desk. ^^
Hi i was just wondering i have 2 friends that are in the top 500 and I'm near the the bottom of the waiting list i was just wandering because i know my mate will most likely com late so is it alright if i use his tag until he get the in the arvo and at 2pm just pay for my spot
Well from what i know, they don't mind what people do with their spots as long as they are paid for. So if you pay for your friends spot then with his permission i guess you can use it. That's something you would have to discuss with your friend though
oh, and the fact that if they get full, then you'll actually have to leave with ur computer. but that hasn't happened yet, so *shrugs*
