The Pay early before the doors open scheme is stupid, why would you all line up to pay, then go back outside and wait 30 minutes for it to open, it is exactly the same as opening at 10am, with an extra step, most people dont hold up the line with their computers, as they get their tickets and go back outside and grab their comps.

um... u just explained why getting ur rego before doors opened would be useful. and to get rego, u'd have to pay. -.- and it's not a stupid idea. you just haven't thought about it enough. It might need changes or not be possible at all, but it's far from stupid.

Anyways, for those who dun understand the reasoning behind the advantages of being able to pay early:
1. Open Registration at 9:30am
2. Players can register/pay and get their passes before doors opened (means no lugging hardware/bags through line)
3. Regged players can return to their cars and unload stuff and head back to door, with aforementioned stuff, before they opened and head straight in to start setting up at 10am.
4. Doors open, and lots of people can start setting up straight away.
5. Registration continues while 30mins worth of people can set up simultaneously.
6. ???
7. Profit ($$$)

anyway, the benefit of this would be that you'd be able to process 30mins worth of people before doors opened so everyone can start LANning earlier. There's 500 people at Respawn, and not all of them can be processed immediately once rego opens. If you process 100 people before doors open, that's 100 fewer people in the line and already setting up.

Disadvantages:
1. Gotta watch out for stampeding lanners trying to get the best spot once doors opened. This may cause damage to PCs, Equipment and/or people.
2. People complaining because they don't understanding the difference between "registration" and "doors open"
3. Resource drain from main hall
4. Security concerns
5. Others that I haven't thought of (quite likely).

All that for an extra 30 mins of sitting behind your PC doing crap all...
Really not worth it. You have ~30 hours over the weekend to do what you want to do at the LAN,. An extra half an hour isn't going to make all that much difference.

System is fine how it is.

simple. at 9:30. let 20 people through the first set of doors at a time to pay and get their tag. meanwhile you only need like 5 admins. 1-2 for taking zeh moneee, and like 3 to watch the people (armed with the latest in nerf guns technology of course).
once you open the doors, force lanners to line up a bit more proper. one line for non-payers, another for people who have tags already, piece-o-piss

and i dont say this so i get "half an hour extra to do nothing" its cuz it shits me carrying my monitor in the que so i have something to put down when get in to get a spot i like.

Why dont you just get your ticket at 10am when they open and then go back to the hall after you get your equipment? like people before me have said, its probably going to to be 30 mins of doing nothing because not that mant people are on dc++ or are ready to play games yet.

Or be like me and bring a suitcase biggrin.gif Fit everything into something that has wheels biggrin.gif

because at 10am, you'll be at the end of a rather long line that takes about an hour to get through. and people sometimes prefer to sit in certain areas.

The point of the idea is to get people set up faster!

Doing anything at 9:30 is the same thing as opening at 9:30. If people still knew about it, the queue would be just as long at 9:30 as it is now at 10.

Best thing to do is to bring something luggable in line, and then reserve your spot after you pay for your ticket.

Zardoz, make up your mind. Is it $2000 or $3500 in the prize pool? smile.gif

Patryn, drunkeez and whoever else.. 9:30am would become the new 10am. Simple as that.

I'm also interested to know if the people that have suggested electronic fund transfers have experience in submitting BAS statements or generally organising the accounting side of non-profit organisations let alone a LAN itself. I would guess none bar the unlucky respawn admins, myself and djzort.

What you've got to understand is it opens a whole heap of issues that currently do not exist and I would bet that there is a distinct lack of experienced volunteers in the respawn ranks willing to take on that burden.

Anyway, V16 FTW. See you all there.

If we start getting more and more complex, financially, i'm going to have to go take an accounting course tongue.gif hahah!

Rest assured we are always working on making the event better, in every single aspect! This does include our check-in situation and over the next lan or so there will be vast improvements biggrin.gif (SOOOO exciting :3)

Is anyone getting psyched for the event yet? i sure am! wooo!

hugs all round

PROTIP: Have the correct change in the least amount of bills possible ready before you get there so you can breeze through check-in.
Nothing shits me more than when waiting in line at a supermarket checkout and the douche in front of you waits until they're told how much their crap is BEFORE they even get their wallet out. Have your shit ready, people!

AGREED!

have your correct money in your hand! (1 x $10 + 1 x $20. or a $50. actually whatever change you have ,if it's correct or easily changed = better) don't have it in your wallet in your back pocket.... like i'm going to forget to ask you to pay. HAVE YOUR MONEY READY!

OHOH

KNOW HOW TO SPELL YOUR NICK DANGIT! print it out / write it down if it's anything more complex than 'tank' or such. seriously, these two things alone = saving buckets of time.

hugs
