I think that it should cost an extra 20 for the costs I know it's full and all but come on respawn LANs are number 1... smile.gif that would be mad because I've tried for the past 2 and I either just miss out or don't know it's on ... smile.gif

We would love to run a 550 player event!

unfortunately our current venue limits us (space, power, and OH&S) to 450 players smile.gif

We are looking for larger venue for events in the future, so hang around smile.gif

This is true.

During the LAN, a counter is placed on the main website as to how many people have rocked up at the LAN. As long as that says there's still spaces, there will almost certainly be spaces.

I think it's 2 or 3PM that we open the doors to just anyone that wants to come, regardless of if you made the top 450 players on the list or not.

Perhaps run a registration for a Respawn LAN 850 and see if you can get a huge room in the Exhib building or something similar. Not as an official event, but to see if you could:

a ) Get the interest
b ) Get the needed funds

problem is, a lot of people register/confirm but then don't show up. I think last respawn we had about 600 people register, 450 confirm, and only about 350 actually show up.

That's almost 300 people who confirmed and didn't show, which is about a third

Hi, let me introduce you to my good friend call Maths. He's quite lonely at the moment.

I can assure you all these things have been thought about. When it's feasible and there is the financial backing, something big will likely happen. Maybe.

It has always been a keen discussion point amongst those of us who help run the event. We want to run a BDI (Big Day In) style event again.

In response to point B] - Can we use your bank account ? biggrin.gif

Trust me, this is something we all want to happen, but the GFC screwed everything. Some sponsors who do what they do, can barely pay for a coffee let alone give us moneys!

Historical Fact:
Shafted LAN ran a 550 player event back many years ago in this exact venue. It was pretty interesting but that was back when 400w power supply was like "whoa epic". Exactly like Tank and Squiddy have said, Power is the biggest constraint and since most systems are running at least 800w this well, makes it harder and harder to do.

Power wise, Respawn does not actually use THAT much power smile.gif when you consider that we only use 4 - 5 3phase circuits, there are a lot of places that use more tongue.gif

The exhibition centre may be large, but it's actually a *really* shitty LAN venue. (and there is a bunch of reasons, you can PM me if you want some more clarification.)

We are honestly looking into larger events, but there are a STACK of things that need to get worked on, and if we worked for Respawn full, or even part-time (equivalent) that it would happen SOON™, however we are all very busy with our lives (YES! ohmy.gif WE HAVE THOSE THINGS! (...some of us... tongue.gif )

Anyways, we will of course keep you informed smile.gif

If we did this it would cost the players more.
But if we got the exabition building for respawn you could maybe set it up as a convention and make respawn even bigger

this is run very successfully in europe called 'CampZone'

see

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Campzone
http://campzone.nl/

You may want to read the wikipedia article if you cant read european lingities.

I do think that pre-event ticket sales would help sure up numbers and build confidence for a larger event.

Online payments and also sales through computer stores (Valhalla seem to do this very successfully in Adelaide)

Leave my TentLAN alone tongue.gif

but reiterate

Jeff's Shed (Melbourne Convention Centre) is NO GOOD for LAN usage.

Power/Space are our biggest constraints currently. Feel free to come and chat to me about the power next lan if it at all interests you.

Btw Squiddy, most (decent) genny's run diesal wink.gif .... i know mine does tongue.gif

If it's only up to 500 registered now, you should be pretty safe to get in even without waiting until they open the doors to anyone. I have to imagine that such a giant spike in early registrations will also mean even more people that don't confirm than normal.

Mostly, i'd assume, because going to a convention and going to a LAN has two completely different mindsets.

At a LAN, you nest, at a convention, you hunt.

Also, non-compulsory online payments sounds like a fantastic idea. It could be done via paypal. Excuse my ignorance, as i don't know how difficult something like that is to set up, but it would be great for people who know they are going to be late (due to work/home commitments) but are definitely going to show up

For reasons I wont go in to, I believe this is not possible at the moment. Maybe in time to come when/if certain things change. I agree it would be good, but it's not something that is viable at this time.

Very easy. But that's not why it's not happened yet.
