For the next Respawn, I really do think the signup system has to change in order for the competitions to be run at the best of there potential.

This Respawn filled up in less than 48 HOURS. That's less than 2 days for teams to organize their roster for their respective competitions. It's difficult for most competitors because they have to round up players over xfire/steam and get them to confirm their attendance (which is tough considering respawn was announced a whole 2 MONTHS in advance).

To be honest, I don't think 'First in Best Dressed' works well for a LAN of this scale, especially with the 500 slots filling up so quickly. So it's either change the player limit (which has been discussed many times) or change how things work.

Sure, for you admins, this surplus of attendees is great, but for competitors in the comps its difficult.

I'm suggesting dividing up the 500 limit to allow teams competing to signup up separately. For example, allocating 50 seats to the CoD comp (10 teams), 50 to CS, 50 to TF2 etc. Or, allow team captains to reserve 5 seats for their team (this would therefore mean having the team/comp signups before respawn instead of having it done on the respawn intranet).

Just an idea. Because at the moment, it looks like I won't be able to get my other teammates in.

Discuss.

I ask again, what about those that do not wish to compete... If we go with team regos, then people will start registering 20 of thier mates and fill up the spots for others who, quite legitimately, want to register... Not one reply has explained the advantage of this approach for the individuals who don't want to compete. It's all from the point of view that everyone wants to compete.

I know it was taken as a team based idea, but my suggestion earlier wasn't meant to be about competitive teams. Basically anyone could form a 'group' of friends, and then register for their group.

I think that's a bit unfair though to be honest. Maybe set it up so if one person registers then the rest get alerted, but again, this becomes redundant if an email system is set up.

One unpopular thought I had was that people who mad it into the previous event (ie, confirmed), should be locked out of registering for the next event for 24 hours, to give new people a chance (admins exempt of course). But then if they missed out before, they would probably be keeping a closer eye on the website if they were keen on making it into the next one.

There's no perfect solution, but like people keep saying, maybe there is a better one we can try and work out. Without getting angry at each other laugh.gif

tldr - There could be improvements made to the current system, keep the ideas coming, and try not to bite people's heads off tongue.gif
