I ask again, what about those that do not wish to compete... If we go with team regos, then people will start registering 20 of thier mates and fill up the spots for others who, quite legitimately, want to register... Not one reply has explained the advantage of this approach for the individuals who don't want to compete. It's all from the point of view that everyone wants to compete.
I know it was taken as a team based idea, but my suggestion earlier wasn't meant to be about competitive teams. Basically anyone could form a 'group' of friends, and then register for their group.
I think that's a bit unfair though to be honest. Maybe set it up so if one person registers then the rest get alerted, but again, this becomes redundant if an email system is set up.
One unpopular thought I had was that people who mad it into the previous event (ie, confirmed), should be locked out of registering for the next event for 24 hours, to give new people a chance (admins exempt of course). But then if they missed out before, they would probably be keeping a closer eye on the website if they were keen on making it into the next one.
There's no perfect solution, but like people keep saying, maybe there is a better one we can try and work out. Without getting angry at each other
tldr - There could be improvements made to the current system, keep the ideas coming, and try not to bite people's heads off
