Everywhere I look these days, it seems that more and more PSU's are certified 80 Plus. Does this mean it's more reliable than those not rated, or is there something I missed when reading websites?

80 Plus means that they are 80% (or more) efficient when under full load.
So yes, they are more reliable, but if you are looking for a new PSU, I would also recommend making sure that you check the current going through each of the rails.
