Just a note with running L4D at a LAN.

As far as I know, internet isn't provided at Respawn, no?

If not, you have to use Steam in offline mode.* This means Steam Friends doesnt' work. The downside of this, is that you can't use the thing down the bottom of the menu that shows local servers and friends playing. You can see the fact that there is a server running, but you can't join it using that menu. One must use the console. You also can't create your own games using the menu either. Again, you have to use teh console to join.
You can, however use the console

* - You can use the latest version of UCL, which emulates Steam Friends. This lets you use the menu. You can both join and create servers through said menu where offline steam wont let you. You also can join legitimate LAN servers, so if R4N has set up L4D SRCDS, then his efforts shall not be in vein!

I had this problem only this weekend just gone at a LAN I ran up here.

You can always download a 20mb L4D Dedicated Lan server from steam, just to let you guys know if you didn't know already lol

It's only 20MB if you already have L4D already. Otherwise it's around 2.3GB uncompressed.

TF2 requires Steam unless you bought it retail. I've downloaded the TF2 and L4D dedicated servers so I'm set. Do I have to download anything involving the Source engine?

TF2 retail still requires steam. You just get a CD key you plug in to Steam, and all the (generally non updated) content is on the CD/DVDs.

If you've downloaded both L4D and TF2 ded servers, and they run, then you have everything you need. If you're worried about it, grab HLDSupdatetool and download the full non-steam dedicated servers.
