Respawn 15 wrap-up Options

Respawn LAN 15 was by far the most successful Respawn LAN we've ever had!


Some things worthy of note:

• This was the biggest Respawn LAN we've ever run...
• Union hall has now seen 10 consecutive years of LAN events since Shafted 7 held in January 2000.
• This was the first Respawn LAN where all network switches were uplinked at 2Gbit/sec minimum.
• We destroyed a Power Mac G4 (video coming!)
• We had the largest presence from interstate gamers yet!
• The mess left by many of the players was perhaps the worst we've ever had to clean up... we provide ample bins, so what's going on here??

Many thanks go to those who remained behind after the event to help clean up, especially the guys from SGL and SOGC who had a trip back to Sydney ahead of them. On the topic of leaving piles of mess.

Its bullcrap that people cbf to put their rubbish away, and more so when they just bail and leave it on their desk. It would be nice to take names and addresses so that people who leave rubbish can find it on their lawn the next day (or maybe in their beds).

At FragFest we have had success with having a staff person slide one or more bins up and down the aisles, tapping people on the shoulder and asking them to bin their rubbish. People seem to appreciate that now is a great time to dump all the crap on their desk.

Given that our staff were having to actually pick stuff up and often wipe up sticky dried up cola - raw egg all over a table is the worst we have seen - the effort of sliding two bins up and down the aisles (just use your feet to kind of slide them along gently) isnt a bad trade off. You can also encourage people to finish off half empty drinks, rather than collecting a yummy cocktail of pizza fat and flat softdrink in the bottom of the garbage bag.

Usually the staff member doing it will take the opportunity to check peoples admission (in our case hand stamps) and talk to people whilst waiting for people to put their garbage in the bin.

Weve also found that often helpfull people will grab another bin and follow suit, or offer to take a full garbage bag out to the dumpster. This is a great time to give out some prizes

Dreamhack actually has a recycling award. Where by people actually get raffle tickets (or something) based on how much items they place in the recycling. Then every hour they give out three pc's to three lucky people from the last hour... you can do that with 13,000 people though
