*Edit One: Update for Banned Courses, and spelling corrections* *Edit Two: Taking into account shift to Smash Bros. Wii U*
Hi all!
After two Respawns where we learned what does (and doesn't) work, we now have the rules for the Super Smash Bros. Tournament down pat, and ready to make official.
Special thanks to Plasia for helping me iron these out!
Keep in mind that Smash Bros. is a "fun" tournament.
Battle Format: Stock 5 lives, 3-to-4-Player Free-For-All (except Wii U, which is 6-8-Player Free-For-All), with 5 minute time limit [Exception: Grand Final, where the only difference is that the timer will be turned off].
Items: All Enabled, Low appearance rate.
Course Selection: Randomly selected from non-banned courses.
Characters: You can play as ANY character that is unlocked on the game.
Banned Courses: Moving courses (Rainbow Cruise, Mushroomy Kingdom, etc). Fountain of Dreams on Smash Bros. Melee (GC) due to noticeable lag during 4-player battles. Subject to Change: "Dark" courses (like Battleground and Jungle Japes) are also tentatively banned, as it can be very hard to see the characters on the current projector. Subject to Change: Similarly, courses like New Pork City and Hyrule Temple will be allowed ONLY IF there are no complaints, due to sheer size, and in 6-8 Player battles on Wii U.
BYO Remotes: For wired controllers, like N64 and GameCube, this is fine (just plug the old one back in, PLEASE). For wireless remotes though, this is not allowed, as having to resync could hold up the tournament.
Victory Conditions: Be one of the top two characters with the most lives left at the end of a battle. In the event of a tiebreak situation not solved through Sudden Death (e.g. 2nd and 3rd being equal), Higher number of Knockouts wins, followed by lower number of Self-Knockouts.
This should be adjustable to any Smash Brothers-operating system (be it N64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U)
Ready... GO!
