well you can if it is done through the webpage.. but then it would probably be done per user rather than per ip..
and that requires coding etc.. and as i said, the idea was thought of but not coded/implemented yet.

perhaps if you know someone who is good with PHP and would like to help out with the EMS (Event Management System.. aka the webpage at the lan) then feel free to get them to talk to us

well the obious one, case (but im not gonna suggest one cas ppl like different cases, you'd want to do a poll etc. hard drives, earphones (not cheap crap ones) yet again i wont sugest any because other people will possibly want other etc. lights for case (not the fans there LOUD and if u have a good rig set up, they are way,way to loud, or at least to one i won was) PSP, PS2, ipod? etc etc, and only if i was dreaming could i win a video card possibly the same one as the one i currently have SLI here i come!

if you are suggesting prizes.. do you have a place that might be willing to sponsor us and give out those prizes? or are you just hoping to win stuff like that?

money doesnt grow on trees and we arent exactly pulling in the numbers we are hoping for...

It's not that money is a concern - you can't keep everyone happy. We do all we can to make the LAN an experience that is fun and rewarding. You go on about getting prizes like headphones, etc, but won't be specific about types as otehr people might want 'other ones'. Therein lies the problem. If we were to offer headphones to the CS clans instead of the $500 cash, we could get some decent ones, but i can garauntee someone will be unhappy. Fans, lights, etc, we're at the mercy of sponsors, and are greatful that they offer us product regardless of what it is.

If the prize isn't to your liking, you could always donate it to another comp. I'm fairly sure there's other players out there who'd be happy to take it off your hands.

One final remark, I have considered the iPod idea, and it seems to me that most people have some sort of portable music device these days. It's nearly impossible to please everyone. Perhaps we should have a vote for v4 at v3 regarding what sort of things people would like to see on the prize list.

Daemo: I have told other lans of sponsors whom i use to go and do buisness with whom wanted to sponsor them, im sorry but u can suss them out for youself.

BJ: Like i said poll/vote what eva. Obviously if you get given stuff from sponsors fine what eva, but if there is choice involved poll etc.

well, prizes wise, go after sponsors that you know you can get things from, i have ran (not lans) but clubs etc and i have had to go and apply for sponsorship, its not necessarily easy but you just have to get on top of it.

Even if its a few old games etc thrown in with other stuff, that would be better then what your offering. I am a warcraft person if i win the comp i dont even get my entry fee back, whooptie do how exciting, i am speaking from my perspective so i can give u guys an idea of what (me/ part of the public you are trying to attract) want. i would rather a shitty fan to show that i got something from my effort, e.g. Rezidue lan, one event i won the warcraft and i got a shitty mouse pad, prolly worth $5 but it was a laugh and we had fun, i am saying if your using $$$ to try and attract lanners i dont think its gonna work. Another lan i won $50 for warcraft - very plain.


p.s. most of my suggestions above, yes some were unrealistic, I meant as you have one big prize each event they were just suggestions etc.

but unless maybe you talk to some wholesalers (which it isnt hard to build a business relationship with, but you would want to have some one who already knows and deals with them to help persuade them etc.) You may be able to get discounts or sponsorship from them.

I personaly don't think people should come to a LAN just because of the prizes. You should be coming to game, interact and have fun with the community and if you play well, win a prize or two. Simply saying that "Better Prizes would make the thing better" Doesnt really help.

As for the poll idea... thats great, for those that use the poll. Harsh reality is... not everyone that comes to the LAN, is gonna specifically use the poll. You will always.... ALWAYS have someone that is unhappy with the current situation (in this case, prizes wise) no matter how many surveys you do, or polls you run.

Warmedfawn: Since you are obviously well endowed with knoweldge in the field, perhaps u could enlighten Respawn with who to contact to make the event better for you and your fellow LAN'ers

do we have a number given to us when we enter the lan like a competitor number or seomthing ?? sorry im a respawn virgin . maybey u could just rename the song file to that number and then add it . then the admin could easily see if people where addin more than one .

Hey i personlay dont care one bit about prizes i think a good idea would be some personalised badges (stickers) for winners to put on cases etc . i would much rather a " respawn v3 CSS champ " badge to sick on my case rather than a pair of headphones. i doubt these would be expensive or hard to make .
but all i and my friends are commin for is for funn prizes are just a bonus .

I agree with you Vicelore, but for some people, Prizes are a main reason they come to LAN's, gotta accomodate for everyone u know?

As for the song idea, perhaps (because it is illigal to share files) u could request a song through the EMS and if the Admins have it in their collection... they could put it on the playlist. If it's worth the effort.. do that many people want the system up? I think it would be kind of cool/
