This thread is for these rules only, you can reply with suggestions to these rules which we may or may not implement. This thread will be regularly trimmed so that it is easy for all to read.
WarCraft III : Frozen Throne DOTA Competition Rules Basic Information
Tournament starts: Between 4pm and 5pm Version: Latest stable Patch: 1.22 Gamemode: 5v5 -xl (with bans, picks done upfront) Hero bans: None Format: Double Elimination or Single Elimination depending on numbers
Registering
A team needs at least five players. NOTE: You register as a team, not individually. The team leader registers your team and adds the rest of the players to the roster. Team leaders are responsible for uploading results, checking the brackets for new opponents and ensuring that his team's players are present and mannerly.
Reporting
The team that lost has to report the game result to the admin. If you lost in winner brackets, you will face a new opponent in loser brackets.
If the losing team did not report the winning team will have to notify a referee and submit a replay of the game. Alternatively, you can take a print screen of the end game screen or the enemy team forfeiting.
Walkover
A walkover will be given if one of the players has not showed up 20 minutes after the match was supposed to start. Every round has a specific time set to it, which is when the match should start. Both teams shall be ready to start by the start of the round. If a team is close to be 'walkovered' more than once he or she might be given a warning.
Only referees can give walkovers.
Complaints
If you suspect that your opponent has broken the rules you have to submit a complaint to a referee. You are NOT ALLOWED to submit a complaint if you: • Have started your next game. • It was more than an hour since your game ended.
Warnings and Bans
A referee is authorised to: • Reverse the result of a game • Revoke the result of a game (the game will be replayed) • Give a team a warning • Ban a team Two warnings will result in a ban. If you are banned you are not allowed to continue playing in the tournament.
The referee has full authority to give the verdict at his/her own discretion.
Examples: A warning might be given to a team not following the item limitations. If that team won the game, a referee may also reverse the result of the game. NOTE: If this happens in the winner brackets the team given the loss will continue in the loser brackets. A ban might be given to a team manipulating the game, e.g. by using maphack.
Game Mode
All games must be played in -xl mode. Before the game starts, the team leaders choose which heroes will be removed from the draft using 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1 way. You are not forced to ban. Then heroes are picked the standard 1-2-2-2-2-1 way. If you need to decide on a ban and pick you get 30seconds/hero. Aka during bans you have 30seconds per turn. If you are at the pick stage you got 1minute to decide except for the first pick and the last pick (1-2-2-2-2-1).
There are three things to decide before the game: side, first ban, first pick. Who picks the side does not get to do the first ban/pick. If the teams can not agree on who picks a side a cointoss will be done by one of the referees.
Home team is the upper team in the brackets in rounds 1, 3, 5 etc, and the lower team in the brackets in rounds 2, 4, 6, etc. This rule applies to both loser and winner brackets.
Saves and Disconnects
Save every ten minutes, after first blood, after every major battle and after a rax getting destroyed and on a teams demand if it is rational (demanding a save after every kill is NOT rational).
If a player disconnects within the first ten (10) minutes of the game it must be replayed, unless first blood has been drawn. If one player on a team disconnects after the first ten (10) minutes, then the game will be replayed from the last save, if that save was made less than ten minutes ago. However, if the team has gained an advantage since the last save (a rax getting downed or having 3 more kills than the other team during the time since the last save), the game may be decided by a referee to be played on. In case of a dispute, pause the game and try to get a referee. If you save the game save it with another name, otherwise it will be impossible to restore the game from the point when the player dropped. If the save was more than ten minutes ago the remaining players may choose to play on alone, unless both teams agree to replay from the save. If the game is played on you can sell the disconnected players items or share them between you and use him after that. If an item is given to a player in game, he can't sell it immediately afterwards. If both players or both teams disconnect at the same time (defined as within one (1) second of each other), then the game will be replayed. If the game is judged to be clearly won by one team at the time of disconnect then it will count as a win for that team.
Replays
YOU ALWAYS HAVE TO SAVE THE REPLAY, regardless of your team winning or losing.
Boosting/Pooling
Any pooling is forbidden. Sharing minor health/mana regeneration items between heroes in the same lane for a short period of time does not count.
Sharing
The sharing of basic regeneration items, wards, consumables, and gems is allowed. Shared items have to be given back in a reasonable amount of time if they are not used. Please remember that whenever you purchase an item you are the sole owner of the item -- you can share it for a couple minutes if it is on the list below, but it must be returned or used shortly. The following items are the only allowable items: • Sentry wards • Observer wards • Clarity Potion • Flasks of Sapphire Water • Chickens (for usage) • Ring of Regeneration • Ring of Health • Sobi Mask • Void Stone • Perserverance • TP Scroll is allowed to be given to another player permanently • Ancient Tango of Essifation is allowed to be given to another player • Cheese • Aegis • Gem of Truesight is allowed to be given to another player • Bottle only if it is not empty
Item limitations
Maximum of: 2 Necronomicons per team 2 Euls AND 2 Guinsoos in total per team.
Enemy Items
When an item is dropped by a player or chicken and recovered by an opposing player, this item is considered an Enemy Item. A team may freely use or trade an enemy item to allied players at any time. If the item is dropped again and recovered by the original team, the item is still considered an Enemy item for the original owners. Divine Rapier in any situation is never considered as an Enemy item. For example, a Sent chicken dies and drops a Staff of Wizardry. The staff is then recovered by a Scourge player. The staff is now considered an enemy item and can be freely shared between the members. Later on, the staff is dropped again and recovered by a Sentinel player. The item is now considered an enemy item for the Sentinel team. These strings of events are all considered legal.
Divine Rapier
Suiciding to give out a Rapier is not allowed. For example, if a Sent player makes a rapier, he is not allowed to suicide on purpose (Roshan, creeps, etc.) to give out the item to another Sent player. In enemy item case, a Sent player drops a Rapier and is picked up by a Scourge player. It’s not allowed to give away the Rapier by suiciding on purpose (Roshan, creeps, etc.). Divine Rapier is allowed to be sold.
Backdooring
- You are not allowed to attack any tower on the map without creep support. Creep support is defined as any of allied creeps being in range of the said tower. - You have to enter the base with creeps but they don't have to be in the same line as you. As soon as creeps enter the base, the complete base is allowed to be destroyed. - As long as there were creeps in base when you entered, you are allowed to keep attacking even if they die. If you leave the base at this moment you need to have new creeps in the next attack. - If a tower is denyable (below 10% HP) and is not a base tower, backdooring rules do not apply.
Bugs
Any abuse of known bugs or any use of the program/map that is not intended is forbidden.
Example: Using Raigor's fissure to block creeps from entering/leaving your base. Or blocking an entire lane making the creeps go around via the forrest.
Third Party Programs
AutohpBars, AutoHotkey, Ventrilo or any other programs filling the same purpose are allowed. Using any other program will result in a ban.

Clearly as the captain of the winning team at both respawn and Game1, -lm is much faster then em, as em allows noob teams to get more money and therefore can come back if they just sit back. -lm allows pro teams to play actual tounament level strategies and will completely own any average team. ie our team won both game1 and respawn finals in 20-30 minutes, much faster then 1-2hr games on em

Imbalanced heroes? e.g Bristleback (imo. not imba), Tree, meepo, invoker, clockwerk? (because he is new) Or is there is no restricted picking? Also what about if both teams agree they can play RD mode? Another popular tournament mode is ap draft (-ap mode and pause at the start for drafint). Which is consisted of 5 bans in total 1-1-1-1-1. (correct if wrong, it's been a while). The decision of who bans first is decided by both team captians rolling out of 100 (-roll). Now you choose your heroes in the following order. 1-2-2-2-2-1 (The team losing the -roll chooses first). Then glhf and let the game begin

Hi,
Unfortunately we have to go with the flow. If we get, say, ten teams who convince us that DOTA is still worth running then we'll do it. But for the small amount of teams we attracted and the sheer length of time that a DOTA competition takes to run, we found it not worthwhile to keep doing it and to allocate those resources elsewhere.
How many teams in total do you think would be interested?

i can't really account for everyone else there as i've never played in a dota comp before.
But i can guarantee at least two teams.
I guess you could open a new thread with a poll, and see how many teams would be interested.
But if you think that there will be minimal interest, i'm sure we can just play it casually, we dont really need a comp.

so lets guess at four teams of 5 people? iirc the dota comps often take ~5 hours to run. thats ~5 hours for 20 people... when we can run maybe 4 or 5 funcomps with 20+ people in that time. unfortunately this decision probably came down to sheer maths, but im definately sure no one will be against DOTA running as a fun / casual comp just perhaps not as a big headliner comp!

I'd be happy to do that as i'd rather have other competitions such as CoD4 and TF2 and play them rather than spend such a massive amount of time playing DotA, as good as it is.

Heres the deal peoples.
Over the past few events we were noticing alot of dropouts/no shows in DOTA competitons This was causing a large amount of delays in getting games organised and concluding the competition
to the stage where one DOTA comp ran to well past 3AM.
I will take your complaints under consideration, and work on a way we can resolve this situation
At this stage i have no intention of running the comp for the following reasons.
1. I have no expierenced comp runner to run this comp 2. It takes a very large chunk of time to run
Anyone with expierence running war3/dota competitions feel free to PM me in these forums and we could discuss an arrangement.

NEGA will have a DotA team at Respawn, although our people aren't happy about the increase in cost being associated with running less games.
We will be competing at the event, officially or unofficially, against any teams who wants to play.
I'm guessing Shadow is not around to run the tournament?

As an aside, for prizes: cant we jsut have, say, for any team that wins a match, they get a free redeye drink each, instead of the winners of the comp (same people every time) pocketing all the cash/PC parts?
