Respawn LAN Forums _ Competition Rules _ IMPORTANT COMP INFO

Posted by: dead_man Aug 28 2009, 07:13 PM

We're doing some sweeping changes in the way we run competitions around here.

Most importantly, the biggest change for you is that we will no longer wait for you if you're late, outside, not paying attention, etc. The responsibility is yours to make sure that you're around for the start of the competition, and any following rounds.

We'll give you plenty of warning via microphone and other news outlets when the competitions are about to start, and where you should be.

If we do not get either a representative from your team or yourself to the meeting point within a reasonable time frame, we may, and probably will, forfeit you for that round.

Yay! Looks like we'll have a lot more organisation with the Source competition this time 'round since MRT was the big player last Respawn having to chase up teams and sort it all out and whatnot. Just like to say thanks again to MRT for making it a semi-what memorable first lan, atleast we got some decent scrims etc after half the bloody teams pulled out, LOL. Anyway, yeah, looking forward to the next Respawn. (:

I think you just discovered yourself why it's only single elim - it is a huge competition. Even upgrading to double elimination would increase the amount of time taken to run it by a significant amount, and require a huge amount more organisation.

As said, we may consider it in the future - but for the moment, due to the sheer size of it and organisation required, it's staying single elim.

We always ask for feedback about the LAN. If you think there's something we can do better, we'd be happy to hear your concerns.

Personal attacks without any basing aren't appreciated.

I can guarantee you that without MRT at the reins the CS:S comp would not be run with the same level of professionalism that only a veteran of the game can provide.

Down right agreed.

If you seriously have issues with any certain aspect of the way things are run, send me a PM.

I've never been able to fault MRT on his organisational skills.

Cod 4 should be double elimination only in the finals... Dont see the problem on why it shouldnt be, it would only take 1 or 1 and a half hours more?
People are going there to play all night...

mmm, no k. (lol...)

There are several problems with why it’s currently not double elimination.

1: not everyone goes to play COD4 for the entire event; we even have had some people complain it runs for so long.

2: some people wish to play in other comps as well, yes some comps overlap but we try to minimize this as much as possible,

3: the Respawn Comp and Server Teams do need to sleep and have their own breaks sometimes. Running some of these comps can be very mentally exhausting for those involved.

As I have mentioned earlier I will consider changing the format of the comp after this event. Once I have heard from all teams involved.

Depending on time constraints we may make the finals bo3 as we did last time but dont hold me to this.

Can't wait smile.gif looks like it will all be over and done with so we can get on with fun comps and stuff soon!

Posted by: GIARUS Sep 7 2009, 09:56 PM

well i think that admins shuld keep the scheduale like cod4 we was waiting for it to start and we didn't now when to get the pizza's so admins need to keep to scheduale

Posted by: SirSquidness Sep 7 2009, 11:02 PM

We just can't win in regards to that.

We can stick to schedule, then people whinge that they couldn't play in the comp they wanted.

We run them one after the other, and then they get delayed, the schedule goes out the door, etc. But then people can't just disappear.

Previous LANs we've run the later of the two options. This coming LAN, we'll be trying to go for the former, and I suppose we'll see how that goes.

Ok.

We appreciate everyones input into how competitions should be run at respawn, but let me make a few things clear.

We attempt to do as much as we can to provide a large range of competitive events in a very small time frame. As such we have to make decisions as to how professional a certain competition will run. For example Counter-Strike source can take upwards of 8 hours to run, taking 1 gopher away from running other comps for that entire 8 hour period. COD4 can also take quite a long time to run and it causes similar issues. With this in mind we try to strike a balance between a pro tournament atmosphere and an atmosphere where anyone can try their hand at the competition. We also attempt to try out new games and games that people may not have played before.

We hope you enjoy the competitions we run, and we hope to hear more feedback from you. But asking us to make an 8 hour competition run for another 2 hours cuts into competitions that other people want to play, and tires our our already tired and overstressed team. So i dont see it happening any time in the near future.

Thanks
