There's a steamless, direct-play version that works well in lans, i share a copy of it but no-one was really interested last week. Unfortunately you need to connect to the host's IP via console which makes it a little harder
The only cracked version I've been able to work in a lan.

Most likely respawn will run a Steam L4D server at the lan.

While the game doesnt work that well in a competitive environment, im sure plenty of people will want to get involved in a game or 2 biggrin.gif

WELL... funny you should mention this.

I have the set of L4D files and Steam servers to go with that, when used in conjuction with UCL to launch it, will let you browse the network for servers etc.

I mean, this is for people that have legitimate copies of the game but steam's screwed up for them only... but you know tongue.gif

(also comes with a setting to let me auto-spawn lots of tanks with the click of a button, without cheats. It's great!)

--edit--

It is an older version, as the latest version doesn't seem to work with UCL anymore.

I hope there are a couple of servers going, would be good fun to get into it.

Or even if someone did share a working version of it, I think I have about 4 or 5 friends coming to this one, so would be able to get in a couple of fun goes biggrin.gif

now that DLC is out and a mod so you can spectate is also out, wouldn't be bad to play L4D competitively... But we're all still waiting for valve to bless us with SourceTV

I was trying to find a way the other day of recording the best survival times as a random idea for a fun comp (either at respawn or my LAN or what not). I found something close, but it didn't support survival yet. (I'll keep searching). Might see if I can code one up myself before Respawn. (unlikely tongue.gif ) But that'd make a good fun comp - put up a few survival servers, on a certain map, team with the best time wins.

And L4D does have source TV. it has the console commands at least.
I'm gonna go fire up a server and the game and check now...

--edit--
It appears not to work. And the itnernet seems to think that while it either used to work or sort of works and I'm not sacrificing enough virgins, it doesn't work well.

Well, 13 is coming up. Time to bump this.

Rump (ready up) mod has been updated, theres also a mod that they use on the ladders which turns med kits into pills, so the only kits you get is the ones at the start.

Maybe 13 is already set in stone, but what about 14? I mean, there is another DLC coming which says it will 'balance' the gameplay.

Any thoughts?

edit; you can run the game offline mode for steam. don't need to download a non-steam pirate version :S

You obviously don't use Steam offline much. Take my word for this - it works most of the time. But it doesn't work on occasion.

I suppose it's lucky Respawn has internet for steam only.

I'm well aware of how it works. tongue.gif

Just that sometimes steam offline mode works, or the lobby shit cracks the sads.

HOWEVER... we have internet for Steam only at the LAN, so it's not really an issue. You can use online mode.
