Basically each tournament will have "pros" rock up take it out and then leave, giving casual gamers not much of a chance at winning prizes. Besides afk comps etc.
Would it be hard for an admin to find a game that Isn't widely played. Such as worms or doom 3. Just as examples and making them a spur of the moment competition. Meaning people know there is an unknown game being played as a tournament but until that time in which the tournament is about to be played no-one is prepared for it. Meaning no-one can pre-determinedly practice on that game giving everyone an equal opportunity or even a chance as winning.
There's really not much to the idea but if anyone needs more detail I'm sure I could explain it a bit better.
Much love.

No matter what game you play in a comp, there will always be someone that's stupidly good at it. Good idea though, mystery game comp. Admins DL an obscure, free to DL, multiplayer game and upload it to the FTP 30 mins before comp start. You then have those 30 mins to install and practice. THEN IT'S ON LIKE P-DIDDY KONG.
Or, how about, after the CSS comp is over and all the pros have gone home, we host a super-secret-8am-the-next-day CSS comp?!

Harlski. We call them funcomps, and we run them every hour Quite a few of them are just oddball games like teeworlds or baboviolent. But we also run HL2DM, UT2k4 (various mods), Quake at least once, and whatever else pops into orbit's or my head

The fun comps have always been around. And there will always be a pro that can do it better. The bigger prizes have always been for the more popular games that bring people in sadly. I understand your frustration in that the pros always seem to win. Alioth - Spot the admin that has the energy left over to run a comp on a sunday

And Alioth explains it better. Not true, ive given out, keyboards, mice, cases, psu's etc... in funcomps. Some have small prizes Some dont.

They obviously wanted the prize more than you did, or you would have practised just as much. At the end of the day, a tournament is still a tournament.

Harlski, people are good because they play the game. You can't complain when people have put time and effort into practicing a game to get good at it. The whole point of competition is to COMPETE and better competition raises the level of skill for all players. I honestly think, not to personally attack you here but i think you're just a little annoyed that you haven't won a substantial prize.
Also let me say at last respawn, the CSS comp was no where near to normal skill level that it is at. I think all the pro css players just didnt attend or didn't play in the comp. The teams in the finals were not pros at all i know, i played in it. It was just a bunch of people who were decent at fps playing. Also FYI the big funcomps, the prizes are not *bags of lolly* size they are very substantial prizes for the big ones, like HL2DM and CSS gungame. You just have to face the fact that the bigger comps have better prizes.
I suggest to you that you pick a game, practice like people have and play it, then you might have a chance at winning a decent prize.
Also you should be playing for the fun of competition not for the prize, that should be there as a little bonus for being good.
Good competition breeds skill and at the end of the day that is what it should be about, remember that.

Just close this thread. People are taking what I was implying out of proportion.
The true intention was to play a game which isn't announced until half an hour before hand, not to disadvantage or advantage anyone. But to play a game that is suddenly thrown upon us. To see how everyone play's with little preparation.
Thats all.
Close if you must.
