Just wanted to know if the following port could be opened to allow me to host a ventrilo lan server so that anyone at re-spawn can jump in and chat. I'll be splitting the channels into games and public channels and even team channels if required. I will be using Ventrilo v2.1 and i will supply it on the fileshare. The reason behind this is because it does not have an 8 player Server limit like later versions when it comes to LAN.

QUOTE
Ventrilo is a bit strange when it comes to connecting on a LAN. You have to use the LAN address if you are on the LAN. i.e. 192.168.xxx.xxx. Make sure any firewalls on the machine allow access to port "3784".

Anyone on the internet needs to use the WAN address,. You can check your WAN IP here. Use that for your friends that are not on your LAN.

You will have to forward port "3784" on your router to the LAN IP of your server for anyone to be able to connect from the WAN side.

More info on port forwarding is available here.

Good Luck.

Just a quick question, don't stress too much tongue.gif

Thanks,
Guni

I was of the understanding that there was already a vent server setup by both Squid and M4V3R1CK

That port is only for people to connect to from outside of the LAN (ie, on the internet)

You're more than welcome to set up a Vent server.

Also keep in mind that Mumble is better than Vent (because I said so happy.gif ), and both TS and Mumble will be hosted at the LAN. (This LAN, mumble wont be hosted on my desktop, so it wont drop out every 15 minutes when I BSOD, nor will I BSOD this LAN)

It's not that low bandwidth, actually. But it's worth the quality.

Sorry, I meant to say low-latency. But still, it doesn't put that much of a dent in my internet, that could be because I'm on a 160gb plan though
