Curious, for those who bring their file servers along, do you normally pay for two ports or bring your own switch?
I've often wondered how people went about it.

I bring my own switch (though I believe this may now be a no-no) or just simply use an extra port. My understanding is you're mostly paying for desk space/food/staffing, the switches at the lan always seem to have spare ports anyway.

Having to pay double to bring my file server would almost certainly deter me from doing it, as really only other people benefit from me bringing it.

correct, however you also pay for the port, if there is a spare port generally no issue, however if people show up needing an port then the fileserver will need to be unplugged,

also entry does not cover staffing, they dont get paid smile.gif

Bringing your own switch is a big nono

If we see peoples switches used at the lan they will be unplugged

That is all tongue.gif

Yeah, definately a big no no there. But what the other guys have said, using two ports on the current switch is ok but if we have other players needing it, then yeah it has to come out. smile.gif

And if we do see one there, and you aggrivate R4N from it...

No worries, just wanted to clear things up. In the past I have just had two NICs on my main PC and server going into that.

As mentioned, it mainly for the benefit of others, so no loss if I don't bring the file server.

you may be able to organise with admins for dedicated servers to go in the admin area - just VNC or RDP to it.
