Just thought I'd like to let you guys know what I experienced as my first time as a LAN. [YES, I am damn tired and damn bored thus me doing this... Plus it might be interesting to you or a .... Review of how your first time may have been]

So I started off the day carrying my first ever built PC into the building, after rego'ng my tickets of course but I must mention I was very hesitant to come to Respawn as I had other things planned on the sunday and wasn't sure I'd be someone who would fit in... Also had difficulties getting a ride to the place but was all sorted out with some other people who I had found out that were going to Respawn anyway. I found myself tripping over the damn loose gutter thing in front of the front door, thus leading me practically limping throughout the whole Respawn in pain etc. I was told to dress warm, thus my ugg boots and my fur jacket but was found to not need them in the morning since the PC and the sun had heated the whole hall up anyway. I ended up buying a 10M ethernet cable because the one I bought wasn't long enough to connect to the LAN but it was all good... I didn't realise that LANs would consist of just sitting in your seat, gaming, downloading + going out to eat maccas every few hours though which was definitely a new experience for me.

So one of the most memorable things I would say would me being 'Anonymous' to everyone, it's the same experience with being a female on the net but just so much more exciting... Just knowing that the people who are calling you a man were only sitting a few seats away from you. I did eventually reveal myself but it was just fun anyway to chat to everyone on 'That which shall not be named', which was a completely new program to me which I'd like to thank Ase and Synsync [I don't even remember his username] who helped me set it up. I started to feel like I belonged when I actually entered 'That which shall not be named' and especially when Queenie came to help with my Steam problem, which was a wonderful thing btw. Not to mention the mass downloading of Porn, TV shows that were definitely familiar to me but not to my friends that go to school with me.

But yeah! As a summary of how I felt about it... It was great fun and I'll definitely be attending the next one, regardless what my mother has to say about the LAN. It was a great experience and I'm sure it'll be more fun now that I've got an understanding of what happens at these LANs now, not to mention, knowing some of the people besides the people I came with now.

So yeah, overall I want to thank the people who were on 'That which shall not be named' and the people I got to leech off things and the people who managed Respawn which was a great experience!

- Jenn.

PS : I still hate you Rack 1 + 2. ;x

You thesis on Unicorns has been accpeted into the Libary of Epic.

That was awesome to read, and I agree, more people should comment about their "first time" *giggle*.

I'm amazed that you made it through all of respawn with close to no sleep at all, that is dedication. I've never made it that far. Congratulations. Also, thanks for making DC chat even more entertaining. wink.gif
Until next time!

Think I can top this... I had no sleep from 2:30am Saturday, went to work, went to Respawn, didn't sleep, left at 1:30am for work, didn't get a chance to sleep until about 11am. Last Respawn I didn't get a wink of sleep either and I was there from 10am till at least 9am.

All nighters are the test of a true lan player. You have passed the test. I admitted defeat for 30 minutes at my first lan but have gone full night the last two. I actually went with no energy drinks this time! Hope you enjoyed the trolls. We are all very nice in the end tongue.gif

You make it sound like "that which shall not be named" is all there to do at the LAN! You surely are missing out tongue.gif

That is awesome to hear Jenn! Welcome to the community.

I haven't been able to do the 36hrs straight since Shafted LAN back in the day. I guess my tiredness comes from the hard work and preparation that we put in so you could sit down, plug in and play so many games that you become the game. (I couldn't think of anything witty sad.gif)...

It's great you enjoyed it, and that you'll come back! Tell all your friends too!

Staying up all night is definitely fun if you can do it. You can of course maximise your gaming experience. smile.gif

Back when there was something called Rezidue Lan, which started Friday Night, my max uptime was ~35 hours. I can't do that now that I am not in Uni any more. It was a crazy feeling to look up at the roof windows, and see it go from dark to light to dark to light again.

Someone told me DC wasn't allowed to be mentioned so that's what I had to replace it with. Oh well.. Haha.

Thank you Jeffy. biggrin.gif I think I love the people more then just gaming 24/7 it's good stuff. happy.gif

Staying up was easy due to the energy drinks. tongue.gif

Aw man, I can't do overnights any more. Energy drinks either give me an ulcer on my tongue from the sugar overload, or they put me to sleep.

The event was AWESOME for my first time. I'd rate it 4.9/5, only lost the point because it got really cold at night (either the aircon was on or the door was open) which was kind of weird considering i was just a bit offset from the middle area.

I got some awesome video of the end of the can stacking contest on my ipod touch which i may upload later. on the same note it was kind of a letdown knowing team "finger" won yet everyone got a prize for participating. /trying to start an online war

also one last thing, *sets up pa system. "WHOEVER TRIPED THE CORD YOU ARE AN IDIOT"....

The air con system was on fan only. It was either that, or off entirely, and you really don't want no air circulation through the venue. Have you smelled a hall full of LANers before? tongue.gif

Apparently it's usually colder so I guess we were quite lucky. And yes, I don't want to smell that... even though I did smell whilst passing some. >_>;; And I guess being a bit cold would be better then smelly peoples. tongue.gif

Just bring more clothes next time.

We should have totally continued the Penis game like I said. D: <
