Hi Everyone, In the upcoming Respawn V17 I will be running the fun competitions.

So I come to you, our dedicated player base to find out what games you would like to play, what changes you would like to make. And any other of your amazing ideas we can claim as our own.

Firstly, we are deciding between hourly comps every hour and a half. I will configure these before hand so we will have times and a nice list before the lan so you can practice your pro skills.
They will alternate with AFK comps so you should not miss out on too much and I will try to keep the most popular games away from the pro comp times.
The servers will be running for the whole lan however, so when the comp is over keep beating your friends!

The last lan had funcomps run for 15 minutes each, what do you think of this time limit, too long or short or maybe it should vary for each game, any thoughts you would enjoy sharing on that?

I am trying to keep retail games to a minimum, free/demo or games that most people own are best. So I would really appreciate if the suggestions for awesome fun games are mostly free ones you know about (or maybe made).

Now my current thinking for game list is as follows.

Yes
  • TF2 Dodgeball
  • CS:S Free For All
  • BF2 Demo
  • Altitude FFA
  • Tron
  • Trackmania
  • Babo Violent 2
  • CoD4 GunGame
  • Warsow
  • Soldat

Maybe
  • bzflag
  • halo1 demo
  • Golden Eye Source
  • Plain Sight

What do our players think?

I think that the times should vary, mainly because some games may take longer than 15 minutes to complete.

FlatOut 2 for example could take 20-30 minutes, depending on what options are selected.

Having the fun comp servers running for the entire time of the event is a great idea, saves the need for gamers to keep coming up to squid requesting servers for games mentioned in your list..

Of course, there will always be requests for servers for other games, but that is to be expected.

TF2 Dodgeball?

Yep. Everyone is pyro, and rockets come out of the ceiling of the map and go for either team, you repel them and they track onto the enemy. Points for kills.

Flatout 2 doesnt really fit as a "funcomp" due to it requiring heats and a final.
This is one of the reasons why i run it as a major comp smile.gif

Funcomps as omni has pointed out are usually free games, or games that a majority of the playerbase own, that are easy to get into/easy to run. This way we get maximum fun with limited hassle smile.gif

Plain Sight would be fun, the issue is that it requires internet authentification to be able to log on to play.

Put it up on the projector.
All Stepmania players in the front of the hall, 1 or 2 players at the time.
It would work, if you had 30 players, song picked by organizer, lets say its 3 minutes long, thats a 2 hour long fun comp, allowing for a minute for each player to swap over.
Or you post it on the EMS, say "At 4pm registrations will close. Please pay attention to the Respawn Notifier to see when you are due to play".

Main downside of both these options, it is 2 hours of watching Stepmania.

I do kinda think a StepMania comp would be cool if someone could go through the procedural hell of organising it~

I have all the files needed, Plus a whole shitload of songs (Generic jap happy happy crap and real songs (Metallica, Bullet, ect) and custom skins. I can upload it all to the ftp, but beware, this game is not for the faint of heart, noobs, or those with epilepsy.

Also, songs to be picked between the 2 players, not the admins tongue.gif

What about Flatout2 Derby as a fun comp then? Or some of the minigames like royal flush and high jump?
