Hi all!
The 'big experiment' is the Civilization V: Brave New World competition. Civilization V is an engaging and brain-twisting game at best, bringing the best AND worst out on people. And we want to harness that!
These rules are possible to change in future based on feedback and results.

Special Rules/Limitations
• Gentlemen’s agreements (e.g. if I give you x number of troops if you don’t attack me) are not against the rules, nor are they supported by them. Essentially: If you make an agreement beyond the scope of the game’s capabilities, the admins can’t protect you. • Don’t act against the spirit of the game (have some fun, don’t be a bad winner/loser etc).
Admins have the right to take action on any of these things. Depending on severity, this can range from private warning to instant (and permanent) ban.
Default Victory Conditions
• Domination (capture all capitals) • Democratic (win United Nations vote for World Leader) • Science (Build, and launch, spaceship to Alpha Centauri) • Cultural (Assimilate all other players culturally through tourism) • Score
Hidden Victory Conditions
One of these ‘hidden’ victory conditions is given to each player before the game begins, and at random. Players must advise, and have verified, their claim by an admin as soon as it happens.
• All that is Holy – Your religion must dominate 50% of all cities, post-Renaissance era • Blood and Tears – Kill 400 enemy units (excluding barbarians) • Great Revolutionist – Cause 3 cities from any empires to revolt and defect to you, and hold them until they no longer are in resistance • Friend of the Little Guy – Have 3/4 of all city states allied to you • The Future is Now – Reach a scientific age 2 ages ahead of the next competitor (e.g. Information, when the next closest is in the Modern Era) • Land Hog – Hold ~50% of all land (judge by colour on the mini-map) • Fair-Weather Friend – Eliminate <x> player within 25 turns of making a Declaration of Friendship with them. • Clausewitz Lives Again: Adopt the Clausewitz's Legacy ideological tenet, then conquer 15 cities before the benefit expires. • Never Take my Freedom – Build the Statue of Liberty and hold it for 15 turns • Order Up – Build the Kremlin and hold it for 15 turns • Dictator’s Retreat – Build Prora and hold it for 15 turns • Colour-blind – Eliminate players with <x> colour in their logo • Wonderful – Build or own 20 World Wonders (half+1 of all of the world wonders) • Trusted Leader – Lead the World Congress or United Nations 3 times in a row. • Nerd, In-game AND Out – Discover ‘The Internet’, ‘Satellites’ and ‘Computers’, and build ‘The Great Firewall’ wonder. • The Great Trader – Have an income of over 500g per turn.
Tie-Breaker Resolution
This Civilization V competition has a unique situation of having two ‘winners’ – the first to achieve their Hidden Victory condition, and the ‘standard’ winner. However, if someone wins both, the second-place achiever (most likely the highest scorer, or second-highest scorer) in ’Default Victory Conditions’ becomes the runner-up in regards to awards/prizes.
