So at v11, I rocked up with 3 other mates, just intending to mostly play UT2004 and UT3 all night long.

LUCKILY we sat across three macfags who were also just playing UT all night, so it was fantastic having an equal-strength team sitting right opposite us to play for hours.

Just curious, is anyone planning to playing ut2k4/ut3 at v12 other than the instagib tourney?

Will play bits here and there - as long as there's variety, I'll play for a while.

I'm gonna be playing TF2 more than anything (if there's other people playing >.> )

For those of you who don't know, if you bought UT3 at retail, you can now 'convert it' into a steam game.

Go to 'Activate a product with steam', and type in your UT3 CD key.

This way, you'll always be kept up to date ^^

On topic: I LOVE any form of UT so i'll play if theres a server

It's been a while since I've seen a UT2K4 CTF match played.

Looking forward to the UT2k4 instagib though. Was epic fun last time. Pity I was only dominating in the pre-comp rounds - the round before the comp I just started nose diving. Must have run out of caffine or something.

*shrugs*

What do people think about a UT2K4 invasion match? Its player vs npc, but free for all (not team or co-operative based).
You jigger the waves to be insanely hard, so its basically a last-man-standing survivor match against hordes of spawning npcs. Could easily reduce 32 plays to 1 in under 5 minutes.
Great fun on maps like Morpheus3, its very easy to get blown or beaten off the edge if you aren't paying constant attention to everything going on around you.
Thoughts?

Last Man Standing is different to invasion though. Just to be clear...

Last man standing, you have x lives. Last one alive wins.

Invasion, everyone just gets arsed raped after a few rounds tongue.gif

Like I said earlier, you have to turn the wave difficulty and npc skill up to maximum uberage, otherwise 32 players are just going to pound through the npcs waves (if you survive a wave, anyone who died respawns).

Its not highest score R4N, its the last person to die (the one who stays alive longest).
Although I guess if 32 players are just too good for the game, highest score would be the next best thing.

I dunno... I reckon highest score would be better for a competition of this sort. It would encourage people to be pro-active about it, instead of hiding in the corner where the minigun spawns.

It would make it more intense, more fun, more awesomer.

Also, make the first two or three rounds easy as hell, give people time to get armour and weapons if they so desire (as opposed to only one person being able to get it if the first round is the arse rape round). Or remove armor etc completely.

Fair point, but I can just see the scenario where 32 players are all competing.. to be the first to take out the one shitty npc that spawns every few seconds.

The brilliance of playing on a small-medium map with 3-8 players is the sheer sense of franticness and danger the mode engenders. If you increase playercount to dozens without maxing difficulty, its going to be target practice and luck of the drawn rather than the all-out battle for survival against overwhelming odds.

As for hiding in the corner where the minigun spawns, I've always found the most effective tactic is to just keep moving from areas of denser hordes > lesser hordes. Any noob that wants to camp will soon get whats coming.

Although yeah, it would be stupid having people dropping like flies at the rate Instagib does, since you could be sitting on your ass for several minutes waiting for a respawn.

If you want to do some quick elimination like that, why not put last man standing mode on with 1 or 2 lives each, and use the mod that gives everyone every weapon?

In fact, I think with last man standing you get given a full complement of every weapon anyway. You did in UT99 at least.

Tactics for fighting a limited number of players is very different to fighting an unlimited amount of npcs, in UT. Invasion requires imo more of an ability to multitask and lay devastation down to everything in your immediate area.
Both are fun, but you dont see much of the latter large-scale in lans. Which is why I suggested it.
