386 and 486 were capable of running 95/98, Robert tongue.gif

Slowly, but they could biggrin.gif

I was also given a brand new, still-in-the-packaging 486, time to bring it to life I say biggrin.gif

Xargon, I was donated a whole bunch of old hard drives, if you cant get one, let me know.

Hello Folks

I was disappointed when GameSpy shut down the Flatout 2 Lobby server, rendering online play defunct.

That was until I learned that Flatout 1.2 patch added Command Line options to specify an IP address to join. This effectively allows you to join a server provided you know the host's IP address. There is also a program to automate this (non-steam though).

Hosting a Server: Ports to Forward
The Server Host will need to ensure that the following ports are forwarded:
  • 23756 (UDP)
  • 23757 & 23758 (TCP & UDP)

Flatout 2 Online Launcher
If you are running the non-steam version of Flatout2, you can just use this program here: http://flatoutjoint.com/index.php?option=c...info&id=816

Using this program is straight forward. If you are playing the steam version of Flatout, read on

Steam: Hosting a Server

Find Steam.exe (usually located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe"), create a desktop short-cut. Open properties on the newly created shortcut, and add the following parameters in the Target:

-applaunch 2990 -host -lan

Your target should read "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 2990 -host -lan

Click apply and then run. If all went OK, Flatout 2 should skip the intro, allow you to select a profile and then it will immediately go to the session lobby.

Steam: Joining a Server

This is a bit more involved. Your server host will need to tell you their public IP address (Server host can do this by typing "what is my IP address" into google). Alternatively, if the host is using a DNS service, you can get the IP by typing "ping your.server.hosts.url" (without the quotes) into cmd.exe (unfortunately flatout 2 only appears to work with IP addresses)

Next, find Steam.exe (usually located at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe"), create a desktop short-cut. Open properties on the newly created shortcut, and add the following parameters in the Target:

-applaunch 2990 -join=[your.server.hosts.ip] -lan

The target should look like: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 2990 -join=[your.server.hosts.ip] -lan

You are now setup to play flatout 2 over the internet without gamespy smile.gif

Having said all that, would anyone be interested in playing Flatout 2 on Sunday nights?

Assuming it's more than just you and me in this comp, and unless you have multiple machines involved, I'd drop the "Best of 3" otherwise it will take too long.

Hey guys

I am thinking of running an OpenTTD server at this next Respawn. The trick is we'll be running a special version of TTD that has "Cargo Destinations".

This means you have to build your transport where the town/industry wants to go, not where you want to go, in other words, towns and industries will only send their cargo to certain places.

See here for further details: http://wiki.openttd.org/Passenger_and_cargo_destinations

You can get a copy of the binary here: http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/yacd/yacd_2.3/

You will need to download and install OpenGFX (and OpenSFX and OpenMSX too)

Alternatively, I will try to make the version available at Respawn somehow.

Discussion thread for Total Annhilation by That Commander

There's a few ways to play

1. "Deathmatch" mode. Means if your Commander dies, you respawn again in a different location and start over. This is good for inexperienced players. Person/team with highest kill count after 1 hour wins.

2. Last Commander/Team standing. Pretty self explanatory.

Imposing a max 2 hour limit otherwise games can drag on forever.

For total chaos, I recommend all metal map biggrin.gif

Conditions:
* TA with 3.1 patch only.
* The prize is Glorious Victory. tongue.gif

Not sure what's happening with Creeper1. I will chase that up tomorrow today. Ideally I'd like to reserve L24 if possible.

Thank you smile.gif

Hello, just an update on this. It turns out Creeper1 signed up as "Ninja Arrow". But I see you have reserved the spot anyway. Thank you smile.gif

Given that we've been known to still be setting up things at midnight on a Friday night, the difficulties involved are predominately organisation and manpower.

Thank you for clarifying

My friend and I would be willing to volunteer to help setup on Friday if it meant that we could get extra hours of gaming in smile.gif

Cheers

Hello Respawn Admins

As usual the event was great smile.gif

The only suggested improvement is that the Minimum Dress Code be a Suit

tongue.gif

Actually I was wondering what difficulties would be involved for your team if you were to open Respawn on Friday night?

Thanks guys, I am looking forward to the next lan smile.gif
