Interested to know how many players were at the event overall.

No complaints here really. Great LAN as usual.

I think 400 or so, I don't know the official number but you know it's big when you start seeing tables being added!

LOL comp was huge and I love that 15 teams got into the action! Grats to SIN for taking it out and to gamestah for casting it!

Aside from what we have recorded out to the livestream this weekend, does anyone else have footage of the event, gameplay or otherwise? I'm looking at you, commentators. Would love to get it all compiled and out on YouTube!

It was a great first time for us newbie Crazy Bills, the setup was great and the staff was awesome. We were also quite pleased with our performances in the competitions. (Especially CS:GO.) I'm sure we'll be back for more. Oh just to think of it, what happened to the second round of the Mexibingo? Some of us were hoping to score. cool.gif

Was an overall enjoyable event to attend, The staff were great and helpful (specifically at the start when there was a plethora of connectivity issues).
Only bad part I had was that my Minecraft creation didn't come 1st (2nd by 3 votes sad.gif (And losing to a pixel art easily found on google images)). Though I guess that happens when voting is left to the other attendees of the event...

I think I enjoyed it a lot. I think the pizza stuff needed to be announced better as I never even realised it was on until it was too late, although I was probably in a dota game at the time so missed it (not the first time). Also some more novelty comps for the late night guys would be nice too. I like how the network issues were sorted fairly quickly too. Overall pretty good I'd say.

The problem faced with the Minecraft competition, is that it could be argued any of the items were as you put it "pixel art". We will have someone in the Minecraft server verifying the art work going forward so this will be a significant change going forward as I help R4N with all the competitions. Nobody likes losing let me assure you of that.

The voting side for the creative comps has always been with EVERYONE not just the players. So anyone who has checked in and handed us their hard earned pesos meant that they had a right to vote. This way there is no possibility of "thats unfair, there was only 8 votes" or anything like that.

Thanks for the feedback re the comps! We'll definitely as above look at changes to those fun comps to make them as fair and fun as possible!

My collected thoughts on the Minecraft Competition situation:

In case you are unaware, what we were referring to as pixel art is 2D imaging where a website or program is used to chunk up a user uploaded image into the significant pixels and their colours so that a person on Minecraft (or, hell, I've seen it done on Excel spreadsheets) can just fill in 'pixels' with appropriate colours and dimensions. I personally believe it should be considered some form of cheating or simply not a qualified entry as it is unfair to all those creating original 3D pieces of art for their entries into the competition. It's like having a 3D drawing competition and having a 2D stencil'd piece win.

Some people like Minecraft more than others and it may be considered only a minor competition but an improved regulation of entries would make the creative minds of some entrants a bit more at ease. At the very least they can say oh well I lost to someone who created a massive 3D Mexican bandito firing a pistol from the hip and carrying his stolen taco over his shoulder. (Of course recreated from memory!)

As a previous winner of one of these styled of voting comps, it's literally whoever wants to win the most, will win. As well as having the bigger fanbase. In order to guarantee your win, you'd literally have to go around pestering people to vote for you.

Getting away from the minecraft discussion for a moment, we should have had a competition for who had the best moe there! tongue.gif Of course you'd have to announce it pre-lan so people could have grown them a bit more.

One thing i would like to suggest is running FPS comps (cs:go/TF2/COD) at a different time to the Dota clone/RTS (dota2/LOL/starcraft 2). Again i think people really want to including myself come to Respawn expecting to play at least 2 comps being a 2 day LAN we have plenty of time. Any one else think this is a good idea?

Oh and IMO just with my particular matches in Dota 2 it was very disorganized. LOL and all the other comps i watched/played in seemed to run a lot smoother.

It was a blast. DayZ server was populated for many hours and fun was had in general for many comps entered.

9/10, reason for lost point is because i feel recent "themes" haven't been used to full potential. The mexican theme for this event could have been accommodated with a lot more foreign music over the p.a and perhaps maybe acknowledging "respawners" as "cabrones". Good idea with the taco's though, they were tasty.

Last event that i think managed to perfectly pull off a theme was v21 with "LAN Vegas".

RE: Dota 2 comp:
I agree that it could have been organised a little better, Rokshocka did a great job given the circumstances but I'm not sure about playing and organizing at the same time. It would also be a great benefit to organize the brackets a little earlier, the late additions made things a little messy.

RE: Casting
I know that the internet issues were totally out of anyone's control and it's a real shame. Regarding the rest of the casting, having the casters sitting next to each other causes them to bleed into each other's casts which isn't great.

RE: the lan
This was the first time I attended respawn and I had a blast, casted some great games and played some pretty funny games after the tournament, shout out to the guys I was playing with, was heaps of fun biggrin.gif

Lastly, the games I casted are now up at my (new) youtube channel:

Hello Respawn Admins

As usual the event was great smile.gif

The only suggested improvement is that the Minimum Dress Code be a Suit

tongue.gif

Actually I was wondering what difficulties would be involved for your team if you were to open Respawn on Friday night?

Thanks guys, I am looking forward to the next lan smile.gif

I would like to give a big thanks to Jeffy, he did a great job running the LoL Tournament. Considering that there was one team in particular who were giving the day a hard time by being in several competitions at once and delayed the day by several hours. He had to make a tough decision to disqualify that team to keep the competition running, you did a great job Jeffy.

Me and my team will defiantly be there for the next respawn event smile.gif

Given that we've been known to still be setting up things at midnight on a Friday night, the difficulties involved are predominately organisation and manpower.
