Try ebay, plenty of cheap 4 port sata cards for a fraction of the price.

got pci express by any chance - SATA will give that poor old PCI bus a floggin it won't forget (been there made that mistake, admittedly on a single core 32 bit system)

plus it future proofs you a lil bit, also learned that the hard way recently - curse these fast, newer standards

He's running an i7 with 64bit with 2 PCI-express ports free.

Would he need a different type of card or will the same type be fine in PCI-E?

PCI and PCI-e are not compatible.

Any PCI-e will work in any PCI-e slot, however, be wary that it's rare to get a PCI-e socket where you can fit a card with more lanes in without being obstructed (ie, it's rare that an x16 will fit in a x8 or lower slot - it will always work the other way around though)

Ten minutes with a hacksaw can fix that on most cards. :3

Yup. Only running one screen at the moment. Need a HDMI->DVI lead. But..well.. you know. Centrelink doesn't have a "random cable" allowance.
