Thanks for the help guys. Downloading most of the games on steam now. Looking forward to the LAN smile.gif

Just a quick question: What version of Unreal tournament is played? (There are 3 different versions on steam)

If it aint on steam, you might find it here http://www.gog.com/

It will most likely be UT99 GOTY

GOG is awesome, I got Total Annihilation from there the other day!

1. Generally I'd try to acquire some of those yourself. There are plenty of places online that do it.

2. I've never seen food/drink sold at the smaller event as much as it is the bigger events. But there is a subway on campus, there are other food places (McDonalds, Nandos etc) within 10mins drive of the venue.

Hey Guys,

Jen here (yep I'm that strange person who took over from Jeffy LOL), anyway, with regards to LOL and DOTA, I always consult with many people and try to make it as fun as I can. I agree with the comments made by Aulzon about "one game gets really boring". So here is where I was for v29...

When we started considering our brackets, we only had a few teams signed up. Then the wonderful R4N pimped it and we got 8 teams. I think next time I'll consider BO3 for the entirety of the bracket where <10 teams apply. Or possibly even the double elimination. The careful issue I always have to consider, especially with League is that, if you get carefully matchmade games, they can blow out to an hour each without even trying. So if I have a round 1 matched game on BO3, we instantly lose 3 hours of the day without even trying.

So please understand, I want you all to have fun, I want everyone to get a couple or more games with their teams. I just have to be super careful, because the last time I did DE, I had 16 teams and it dragged on until almost 2am Sunday morning. So it's a really careful balance, I think going forward there will be a consultation session with team captains to discuss their wants/needs/concerns etc and then we can put a plan in place. It's all about careful balance, because I know some of you want to play CS:GO, Some wanted to play DOTA2, and others were content with just League.

Hope this gives you a bit of an insight to the constant battle I have when trying to balance the wants of the player to have some awesome games, and the needs of the event not to have something go way over time and drag into the early hours of the morning where everyone is cranky and just wants to give up lol.

Cheers

You can use the v29 thread, but just be advised, the seat plan IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. If the team have to shuffle things around they will. But this is a general idea.

The reason WC3TD was scheduled when it was, was due to a lack of interest last time. I had a look at my records and we had like 8 people.

If more are going to play, then I'm sure I can work with R4N to reschedule it. smile.gif

Well so far the discussion is CS:S GG rather than CS:GO AR so it looks like I'll ask the server team to put together a CS:S GG server for me.

The problem with using CS:S for GG is that patches have a bad habit of breaking the mod overlay.

Given CS:S doesn't see as many, I can't see it as a problem but I'll gladly talk to someone who used to administer the Monash:GG server and get their thoughts as its something they're an expert on.

But I do understand the recoil/bullet pattern.

Zilean OP, you kids and your AP players are just silly.

Zarozz:

I love the DE format, but the problem we had was last time teams in the bottom bracket would sign up to other comps and it caused massive delays and problems for those who wanted to play on through.

If we did a DE format this time, the question is, how comfortable are the teams if I started heavily enforcing the clock in which to start games. Because I can't justify a DE format to the powers that be, if teams are going to double book and cause delays.

Yeah I acknowledge that, can you give a bit more "Why" it's much much better?

Both have similar physics and the like? So I'm trying to figure it out.

I'm pretty sure once you've registered and prepaid. The options in the system will open up to you accordingly.

TA could get a little interesting, I don't even have that disc anymore.

League of Legends - v29 Tournament

Good Afternoon Summoners,

As Respawn moves into its 29th event, the League of Legends tournament will continue!

Competition Rules:

Map: Summoners Rift
Teams: 5 v 5
Mode: Tournament Draft
Schedule: Depends on Teams, would like to see an Round Robin or Single Elim.
Players MUST be ready to play - This means, don't double book yourself.
Arena: Oceania (confirmed we get 20 ping with no latency spikes)

Prizes:
TO BE COMPLETELY CONFIRMED SOON

Will Riot be involved in anyway:
Respawn would love to see Riot Games become involved, we've contacted them however the team at Riot have a very busy schedule and may not make it, Don't be disappointed though. The competition will rock your socks off! (or thongs if you aren't wearing shoes).

FAQ
Q: In the event of network failure, what will happen?
A: If the entire internet fails dropping all players offline, the match will be replayed with the same picks/bans to ensure continuity.

Q: My PC crashed during the load screen?
A: When we setup the competition, you will need to set it up as a tournament match which enables pausing to ensure no disadvantage. This is why tournament draft is used.

Q: I went out for dinner/food/other and missed my comp?
A: If you don't respond to calls to check in, your team will be disqualified. The delays often cause comps to overrun and result in people missing other scheduled gaming goodness

Q: Can I double book for competitions?
A: In short, no. As above we find people will be busy playing other games and delay those waiting. At v27 we had a team who waited 3 hours for their match to begin because the other team were constantly not available. From v28 onward, if you aren't going to be available, we will disqualify the team as the delays it causes aren't fair on other competitors.

Q: Can I bring a player in from outside the event?
A: No, players must be registered, paid and checked in attendees at the event. If you wish to bring in a sub, they will need to present their badge at the comps desk for verification.

Q: Can my team have a sub?
A: Yes - See above

Q: What about <champion name here>?
A: Tournaments do not restrict what champions(toons) you may use, however be mindful the picks/bans process in Tournament selection may result in your opponents either banning or counter picking your selections.

Q: What arena will be run on?
A: Oceania (OCE) - Summoners Rift

Q: Can /pause be used?
A: Yes, in certain circumstances such as technical faults (ie: my support disconnected/dead keyboard/table switch fails/table power fails). If the whole team drops, refer to the above question on that. If the pause is going to last longer than 5 minutes, please have someone alert the competitions desk.

Please see our official ruleset document!

Special Notes
Because we are running in tournament draft mode to ensure the picks/bans are fair to the entire process, you MUST HAVE 16 champions in your account. Champions these days are fairly cheap to purchase with either IP or RP. If you don't have 16 champions, this will make it difficult to be fair in the process.

If you have any questions, feel free to post here or PM me directly.
Get your teams ready, practiced and ready to roll!

And my god bestow your team a Penta!

Jeffy (or on OCE I am JFed)

I currently use and love my Razor Blackwidow Ultimate. Many people say I'm going to give myself RSI earlier than usual, but given we all fap it's kind of a given really?

Ah yep, I've got a rough idea where you were. I didn't pack down that area but the team is pretty good at reuniting things with owners when they turn up.

I'm with squid, I hope it ended up in the bottom of your bag (I had a panic attack thinking my USB cable for charging for my mouse was AWOL) until I found it buried under the soft pack in my laptop bag.

What you think we missed?
Maybe a system where someone (not suspicious looking, maybe someone certified with the staff to give people a lift) can volunteer and be approved to give a lift to people without car access to mcdonalds, or any food place for that matter. I learnt the hard way that its really hard to live on confectionary and ice tea for 29 hours, and didn't eat any "real" food until morning.

There is a couple of food vendors on site in the "Agora", like Subway and the like which is only a 10~ min walk at the most. I'm thinking next event doing a Subway run for those who are interested and arranging it with Subway if people are actually keen.

Hey Guys,

I'm probably jumping the gun replying a little early, but hopefully it should help for everyone who replies. I was the competitions person for this event. I want to firstly apologise to those who were frustrated by the competition delays and missed announcements. As someone pointed out, I haven't seen power issues in quite a long period of time, so it was a first for me as competitions to have to pull out my "incase we have no power" instruction sheet to keep things in tact.

So I'm really sorry to everyone for the delays we experienced. Normally I'm pretty tight when it comes to pushing people into servers, but I have to be fair especially when power is lost. It sucked, I know I speak for the competitions group when we heard players dropped out mid round that it sucks! Regarding the CS:GG tournament, unfortunately that got knocked to early in the morning due to us needing to catch up on the bigger games. Because some of those gamers wanted to jump into a regular "lets just go crazy" game and have some fun. So there is some scheduling that'll need a big tweaking to get around.

Never the less, competitions is only going to get bigger, better and much more strict around times and other things. There is also some other great things in the works for you guys from the competitions team. So stick with us, we know v28 had some rocky starts to games and what not, but you'll agree, Respawn always takes the bad and makes it glowingly awesome!

If you've got thoughts on competitions, something I missed, something I can do better. Feel free to let me know here publicly or PM me. You can even PM/email the core team and share it with them so it gets noticed! I love feedback, I thrive on it, and I can't make things better if nobody says "Hey Jeffy, you noob you cross scheduled DOTA and LEAGUE together" (for example).

Cheers

Could you perhaps post where abouts you were sitting in case someone around you saw it but doesn't know who you are?

I don't recall one during pack-up either sorry, as I checked pings cafe(respawn unplugged), and upstairs when I did a venue sweep.

Hey Mate,

I'm in Seaford, is the mobile number on the SKYE SHIPPING address correct? if it is, I'll give you a buzz tomorrow and we'll arrange it.

I've got it with me.
