People are asking us when the next LAN is!

So, it's going to take us a while to put something together, but yes, there WILL be another Respawn LAN, in fact, there'll be a few.

We'll also run an experiment, something we've been wanting to do for a very, VERY long time - a CS:GO specific event. Local grass-roots counter-strike is growing, and it's one of the earliest esports that got many of us into LAN parties in the first place.

If you're after something super casual, check out the folk at The Big LAN, who are running some really fun community oriented events in Melbourne's East. They have a LAN this weekend, and promise to be running more often as time goes on.

As for the next Respawn LAN. well, we can't wait. We've got some ideas and some brand new toys, and we really want to have a play!

It's interesting how many people seem to be lurking out there; whenever our website goes down, I get a few messages asking me if the site's down, or we're dead yet (nope! Just taking a six year vacation). I assure you, that the dream is alive and kicking, and it's going to be a huge year for esports in Melbourne as we all collective make up for lost time.

So yes, the website endured an eight day outage, along with the Quake II server, but were back and hopefully this kerfuffle will never happen again.

Our Discord sees plenty of activity, and now that things seem to slowly be inching towards reality, the pub nights will kick off again at either Melbourne's premier esports bar GGEZ, or Fortress Melbourne. Can we just appreciate how cool it is that we now have two dedicated gaming oriented places to sink a few pints and talk about our next steps.

On the cards will be a few smaller, focussed events to get us back into the swing of things to build things up. It's been a while, hey?

As always, if you're still checking our website looking for signs of life, thanks for sticking 'round.

Hey. So, we really want to run events again, but this pesky Current Global Event keeps getting in the way.

Our events, especially our large events that we're best known for, take around 3-4 months to bring to live. With lockdowns and changes in COVID conditions happening often with less than 24 hours notice, this places us at high risk with a lot of money on the table. It causes significant inconvenience to a lot of people, and makes it hard on everyone.

So, clearly we need to wait till this whole thing subsides, and it might take a while for that to happen. We thought it was going to be October, and then when it became clear that October wasn't going to be a thing, we decided to wait it out for a few months to see what COVID-normal pre-vaccine looks like, and it's just going to be too risky to pull this off.

Between now and whenever we've all had the jab, we're going to trial some small events. If safe to do so, we're hoping to run small, exclusive events that comply with COVID safety protocols and allow us to expand our foray into esports and broadcast. It's relatively new for us, but it's going to be a lot of fun and something we've wanted to explore more seriously for a while. We don't know exactly how this going to look and budgets will be tight. If anyone has some cool ideas that fit with the above, please get in touch with us - we'd love to work with you!

The other part of this story, is online. Our Discord server. It's full of good keeps who love a yarn and the occasional game or two.

We're currently working on building some game server to tide us over. We'll post details on our socials (and here) when they're up!

Thanks for sticking around and we look forward to LANning with you as soon as we can.

Welcome to 2021!

With the Current Global Event still continuing, it's a big challenge for us to run an event that requires many months of planning, not knowing what lies ahead.

So, we'll let you know when we know, but for now, stay safe and game on!

RESPAWN LAN CANCELLED FOR 2020

We honestly thought September was enough time. Then July came, and things started to look worse again.

So we're cancelling our next event. Well, "reschedule" just doesn't seem right at this point, because we haven't got dates yet as we don't know when this is all going to pass in a manner that allows us to LAN like we want to.

Thanks for everyone who has supported our v36 event with pre-paying. We'll be refunding you shortly. We'll also be keeping track of who you are. We hope to do something special for those who have supported us getting back on the horse.

Lots of people are playing Fall Guys, so that's a thing. We're working on some retro game servers for some old school fun, and some organised games - GTA V just got some massive updates and we're told more updates are on the way.

For all our partners, including the staff and management at the Batman Royale, the team at Aussie Broadband, and the wonderful crew at Scorptec Computers - thanks for your support.

But most importantly, thanks for sticking around. To you, the people who make this Respawn thing happen. You're the best and we look so forward to doing this again, once This Thing passes.

RESPAWN LAN v36 RESCHEDULED till SEPTEMBER

Look, we really didn't want to do this, but we made the call to reschedule Respawn LAN to September due to the impact of COVID-19.

It's just not safe to run in April, nor will the government allow us to do so. And even if they did, we wouldn't be running. It would be irresponsible for us to run.

It's going to be a tough time for all of us over the next few months. Please take care of each other and avoid as many public gatherings as possible. Keep safe distances, become at one with the soap and water. Don't touch your face and all that.

Everything we do now, as early as possible, will have significant positive impact at the other end of this. Conversely, everything we don't do, will have negative impact and will draw this up.

We really want to run this in September, and we really want everyone to be back on their feet so we can do this.

We'll organise some online activities that we'll announce soon.

Welcome to the Respawn LAN v36 CS:GO tournament sign-up thread!

We are accepting sign-ups before the event so we can keep track of numbers and organise resources accordingly.

There will be additional sign-up on the day, however to GUARANTEE your spot, you'll want to sign up here.

If your entire team is prepaid, then we'll confirm your space in the tournament.

Note that this is a BYOC LAN tournament and bringing your own PC is a requirement. If we have sufficient interest, we may be able to provide loan PCs, however these will come at $60 a pop and have yet to be confirmed (numbers permitting).

Respond to the thread with the following:

1. Team name
2. Individual player handles, as they appear on the Respawn LAN forums/sign-up list.

Any Qs? Hit us up here, or on our Discord!

We've got some super bad news for everyone, and we've had to reschedule our upcoming LAN to April 18th-19th.

Our NBN install has been significantly delayed due to complications with the install. Without reasonable Internet connectivity, we would be otherwise unable to meet our standards for delivering a quality event to the community.

Furthermore, there have been some concerns regarding the recent coronavirus outbreak, and although we feel the risk is minimal, the health and safety of our community is an absolute priority.

This has not been a decision that we've taken lightly. If you have pre-paid for your registration and don't wish to commit to our new dates yet, please contact us via our Facebook page, Discord or respond to this post and we'll send you a refund. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing everyone in April.

Seat Bookings are now OPEN!

We're doing it a little different this time, for those who remember how we did it last time. We're going to use Discord for your requests.

Simply state your requested row (please see the Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZKU...d8E-si26hkkbY/) and we;ll add it, if it's not already taken. First come, first serve!

A few things:
* PREPAID ONLY. This is to ensure we are not holding spaces for people who aren't going to show. Any issues in doing so? Ping Zardoz and he'll take care of it!.
* This is all SUBJECT TO CHANGE. As registrations are lower than capacity for this event, we WILL be moving things around a bit. We reserve the right to add some rows if we see fit, or condense others/shorten them.
* There will be heaps of space between rows. Don't pick a space on the end of the map because you think you won't have a row behind you; you don't need to worry about that.
* If we make any changes, we'll ping you to let you know.
* It's a good idea to let us know what games you're planning on playing, so we can group tables together.
* If you're playing in the CS tournament, we suggest you sit in the rows coloured accordingly. You don't HAVE to, but we suggest it.

It's official. We're official. You're official. Introducing...

Respawn LAN v36: Respawn Royale
April 18th-19th 2020

After a long search, we're so excited to finally announce that we're back on the map with yet another event. Bringing back our CS:GO and League of Legends esports tournaments to the masses, along with a casual line-up of new games including Halo Reach, which just dropped with LAN support (someone give those guys a medal).

We've got a new website on the way which will include a new registration system. This one has served us well for our entire existence. So registrations will open soon™ but consider this your advance notice!

Hit us up on Discord (click the logo on the right of the website and magical things will happen) for a chat!

There are some rumours circling around the block that we're running our next event early next year.

We started them. They're probably true.

Consider this advance notice to invest in some RGB kit for your rig, or to sharpen your Counter-Strike skills.

Good news! We're still here.

We've embarked on a venue hunt and searched high and wide. Finding a location suitable for our requirements, to deliver the best possible Respawn experience is a challenge in itself, but we've finally found something that we're happy with and we laid eyes on this venue last year.

The biggest challenge has been to bring in an Internet connection. Since our inception, there's been a gradual transition to online play, to managed server environments that require high speed, reliable Internet connectivity which is a challenge to acquire on a temporary basis. Many venues will either charge a very significant amount for this service, or won't have the facilities on-hand and require us to bring it in at significant cost, which translates to that significant cost being passed on to our attendees, especially given that we only require the service for three days per event we run.

We're currently working on a solution to this challenge and when we're done, we look forward to bringing you something awesome. For now, join in the conversation on Discord and let us know what you'd like to see at our next event.

Bookings are full?! Bug?!?!

The website is stating we cannot book and its 7 months out!!

14/3/17 trying to pre-pay for October 2017 lan!!

2-3 people please.

Hey man!

The website doesn't show the year on the front page, so that's referring to our 2016 event. We're taking a break while we find a suitable venue that's affordable and we'll let everyone know when we're back on!

A big thanks to everyone who came to our 35th large-scale LAN party! Games were played, shenanigans were had, garlic bread was eaten

Respawn LAN v35 was perhaps one of the most significant events we've run on the Respawn timeline since we started in January of 2006 - we said goodbye to our regular venue, La Trobe's Union Hall. Since the first Shafted LAN in January of 2000 and the first Respawn six years later, over 60 weekend LAN parties and 35 of them being Respawn events, it was a staple of Australia's multiplayer gaming scene; if those walls could talk, they would tell stories of glory, of friendship, of excitement that we still hear from people today.

v35 was the first event where we had the opportunity to use the venue since the refurbishment - a new ceiling, power upgrades, new lighting and climate control systems promised to offer a higher level of comfort for our attendees - all welcome changes, however it soon became apparent that this would bare a significant cost increase, one which would put at risk our ability to continue running events without a significant price increase passed on to our attendees, which we felt was not sustainable even in the short term. So the decision was made to run one event in the venue to say goodbye before embarking on our mission to find the next home for our events and we're thrilled to be back after waiting an entire year for the venue to become available again since the refurbishment works commenced.

Working with the changes - and with the new venue management at La Trobe, has given us a clearer idea on what we really want from a venue to provide the best event for our community.

A big thanks to our sponsors - NVIDIA, Gigabyte, Corsair, Plantronics Gaming, Bitfenix, Zen Gaming Lounge, Aerocool, Deepcool and Scorptec Computers for their wonderful support for our event, including the representatives who came along over the weekend and joined us.

Thanks to the overclockers who came along and to Gigabyte for supporting them.

Do you have plans for H29? Otherwise that seat may go to waste so we'd like to make sure it's still usable if we have a group or two (or more) people. Any objections to moving H28 to H29?
