GTA IV has, in my first hand expience, taken up to an hour to install (from DVD media), and then pisses you off with 5 minutes of forced tutorial related stuff and the first "drive to home" mission. It's not viable for an organised fun comp, sorry.

You're more than welcome to play with a few friends if you like!
