Overview

Hyrule Warriors, developed by Koei Tecmo and published by Nintendo, is a Hack-and-Slash action game that hybridises the well-known Dynasty Warriors platform of game (an Omega Force/Team Ninja effort) with The Legend of Zelda lore, characters and styles that Nintendo has made so well known since the 1980s. Released in 2014, the game quickly developed a following all of its own, as those familiar with Dynasty Warriors tried out new techniques, while The Legend of Zelda fans got to play as their most loved (and hated) support characters for the very first time.

A typical Respawn Hyrule Warriors 'battle' consists of either one or two players trying to achieve a set of goals, or Missions, whilst protecting their own army and HQ (or Allied Base) from being crushed by their AI-controlled opponent. Typically the mission involves either having the most KOs at the end of a battle, or completing the battle in the quickest amount of time.

Rules and Regulations

1. Background

1.1. Registration

Players must register via the Respawn website AT LEAST 10 minutes before the competition start time.

1.2. Game Version

Latest updated version from Nintendo on the Wii U.

* Note: All characters must be unlocked, within 20 levels of each other if possible, and have 'Level 3' weapons available.

1.3. Schedule

The tournament will take place at a 'casual' pace over a number of hours.

1.4. Win Condition(s)

As Hyrule Warriors has some very distinctive methods of victory, there are two options for victory.
Gain the most knockouts within the timeframe set, whilst completing the stage
Complete the stage in the shortest amount of time

2. Match Environment

2.1. Match Format

The stages available to the players to attempt will be set before the tournament. These are a pair of stages in 'Challenge Mode', where players decide which map, and therefor which target, they wish to achieve before starting.
These stages are...

  • Defeat 800 Enemies! (Fastest completion wins)
  • Rush Battle (Most KOs wins)

2.2. Restrictions and Special Rules

Competitors must use a 'Level 3' weapon when competing (Power Level of 280-420)
Competitors must record on the appropriate device their player name, character they used, weapon they used and what their goal score was (combining KOs, Time Taken and Damage Taken)
Competitors MUST DISCARD any 'weapons' they gather during the battle.
These battles WILL be recorded, and possibly used as part of the Respawn Live Stream

2.3. BYO Controllers

Players are NOT allowed to bring their own controllers due to synchronisation issues with remotes. However, all players MUST have clean hands before competing, and take care of the equipment they use.

3. Exploits

3.1. No Cheating / Hacking

Cheats / Hacking includes any unauthorized manipulation of: server configurations and server variables, client configurations and client variables, models, skins, entities, textures, sounds, or anything else that subverts the games rules and normal operating conditions. Hacking includes any third party program which alters the game in a way that the game developer did not intend for.

4. Client / Server Issues

4.1. Pausing Conditions

Three pauses are allowed (for purposes of strategy, checking on targets and/or dealing with an issue). More than that will result in a player's score being considered invalid.

4.2. Match Restart Conditions

Matches will be restarted only in the case of a power outage. If this occurs the match will be replayed no matter what the previous score was.

5. General Rules

5.1. Disputes

Any disputes must be made during the match and made aware immediately to the tournament organizer. If you play out the match without informing the tournament organizer, it is assumed you have no disputes and the result will stand.

If there is a dispute raised, the decision made by the tournament organizer is final.

5.2. Player Names

Inappropriate Player names which includes: profanity, racism, sexism, drug references, etc. may see you removed from the competition pending a competition adminís decision.

5.3. Sportsmanship / Abuse

Unsportsmanlike conduct and abuse during, prior or after matches will not be tolerated. If a player is found guilty of unsportsmanlike conduct or abuse, punishments may be issued. We wish to promote a healthy competition that everyone can enjoy.

5.4 Tournament Organisers

Any decisions to be made whereby it involves them directly in the outcome of a decision must be decided by the Competitions Admin or by another member of Management of Respawn who is deemed impartial.
