Respawn v4 over!

So we've all pretty much recovered from yet another successful LAN. The weather was kind to us and everything ran pretty smoothly with the exception of the odd power outage or two. Turnout was excellent - however we do remind people to register as we do finalise floorplan and tables before the day - we had to scramble to add seats! Photos should be up in the next few days.
The DOTA 5v5 proved to be more popular than 3v3 so we will continue with this format for future events. Other games played during the event included lots of Flatout2, 32 player CS:Source GunGame, Gears Of Wars (xbox360), DOOM2, Jaws (it's single player but great to watch - you play as the shark!) and many more.
A big thanks to all those who helped us run the event, the gopers, the admins and the people who stuck around at the end to help us tidy up. And thanks to all the gamers who came and made this yet another top event.
Edit: Photos are now LIVE.
Onto competition winners:
Warcraft III 1v1 1st - Slashor - $150 cash 2nd - Eley - $50 cash
Warcraft III 5v5 DOTA 1st - UMA - $250 cash 2nd - Solo Bottom - CyberSlam "Take a number for an ass-whooping" T-shirt and AMD lanyards

Once again, a big thanks to our sponsors: AMD, CyberSlam, DFI, The Smart Shop and ThermalTake for making this event a top one! And a special shout to Norgs for sorting out the 10GE quality again.
For those hanging out for a LAN before the next, Dreaming Reality LAN has made a comeback from the old-school days with an 18+ event at the Odeon (the smaller hall next to ours) on Feb 10th and BlueWire LAN held in Diamond Creek THIS weekend.
We look forward to seeing you all at the next Respawn LAN! |

Respawn LAN is only a few days away!
A few reminders to follow.
Firstly, our CS:Source competition will kick off in the early afternoon so it is important that all competitors are able to join servers and be ready by that time. We are aiming for a 2-3PM start to the competition on the day. We also remind players that there is no buy-in or additional costs related to the CS (or any other) competition for this LAN. The $25 entry fee covers the entry into any and all competitions you compete in.
A formal competition schedule will be posted within the next day or two.
Secondly, we proudly announce that parts of the Respawn LAN v4 network will be powered by Cisco Systems Gigabit switches, some featuring 10Gbit/sec Ten Gigabit Ethernet uplinks which will be used to deliver the most advanced computer gaming LAN infrastructure in the country.
Thirdly, The Smart Shop will have cat5e network cable for sale including 10 metre cables for $7.50 and other sizes priced accordingly. They will also have power boards for sale should you require (or forget) one.
More updates to follow tomorrow! |

Less than two weeks to go!
|
2nd January 2007 - 08:40 PM |

The calendar on the wall tells us that we're less than two weeks away from Respawn LAN v4! So we'd thought we'd give you an update on our developments so far.
So, competitions:
$750 CS:Source 5v5 - we're told that Livid and Wu (two of the top clans in the state) will NOT be attending this event! This is good news for previous clans who have attempted to compete in previous events. $250 Warcraft III DOTA 5v5 first prize $150 Warcraft III 1v1 first prize DOOM 2 (using zdaemon) Quake III Instagib Hard drive throwing Console tournaments on the Wii and XBOX 360 consoles run by NGU. Many door prizes including a top of the line DFI motherboard, a ThermalTake Mozart T Entertainment centre and other giveaways throughout the event!
Food:
We'll be running the usual BBQs throughout the event, cold cans of drink will be $1 each and all attendees of Respawn LAN v4 will receive a 10% discount at the Kingsbury McDonalds, which is about a 15-20 minute walking distance from the venue. We've also got some McDonalds food vouchers which will be given away throughout the event for odd competitions here and there.
Console Games:
NGU will be there in full force, running the console LAN along the side with XBOX, XBOX360 and Nintendo Wii consoles! They'll be running a few comps for us on these which all attendees are welcome to play. If you own such a console, space can be provided in their area for you to set it up, however, you do require a display device (TV, LCD etc) which can connect to your console.
More details will emerge over the next few days - watch this space! |

12th November 2006 - 02:21 PM |
|
Respawn LAN would like to welcome ThermalTake onboard for the fourth time.
ThermalTake have been on-board with our events since the beginning and we welcome their continued support of our events with the following swag: From left to right, we have the Thermaltake Mozart T Entertainment Centre case, a Thermaltake LANBOX case, a Golden ORB II CPU cooler, an O3 Air Cleaner (nifty little toy this one!) and a Starforce CPU fan (heatsink required).
The Smart Shop have also come onboard with us who will be selling hardware throughout the event. The Smart Shop are located directly on Latrobe University's campus. They have worked with DFI to provide three (3) DFI LANParty series motherboards to give away!
