As always, we are welcome to hear your feedback and suggestions. Planning for version 12 is already underway and will sport a player limit of 450 players. Stay tuned.

Hey all,
We're reviewing the way we currently feed you tasty gamers throughout the event and we've put together a quick survey to give us a better idea on how to improve. The survey can be found at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=1NVN...O4gQMDZ9w_3d_3d. We really, really appreciate your time in letting us know so we can bring you the best Respawn LAN ever!
Also, by popular demand, we're looking at making T-shirts available. Check out this forum thread for a yet another survey so we can determine whether this is a fesible idea.
We've got some other things to announce soon so watch this space.
Thanks to Tank, the mistress of food for chasing this stuff up!

Friday morning update!
|
16th January 2009 - 02:59 AM |
|
|
So you've registered, confirmed and are not on the waiting list?
If this is indeed the case, then you're clearly in - and we look forward to seeing you at Respawn LAN 10.0. On the other hand, if you're unable to attend, please withdraw your registration so that somebody else can attend. We will be keeping a record of those who register, confirm and not show up for future events so please ensure that your status is correct.
Your 'place' will be held until 4PM. After then, we'll let unconfirmed players in. If you arrive late, please be aware that we may run out of space! Please watch the website's front page for any status updates as we'll be sure to update the page if we're nearing absolute capacity. You want to get there early, anyway, or you'll miss out!
Didn't register, confirm or still on the waiting list?
We're really sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you're probably not going to get in. Due to unprecedented demand, we're going to hit the venue's maximum capacity. However, do not despair. We strongly suggest you watch this page as by 4pm, we will let you know if there are likely to be any issues with capacity. Registered and confirmed players will still have a preference so be aware that if we hit extreme circumstances, a registered and confirmed player may take your spot however we really, really don't like doing this. We're human, with feelings, too - however we can repress these feelings if we need to cater for those people who did the right thing. We will have very little sympathy for those who didn't do the right thing.
In future, we will flat-out deny entry to anybody who has not registered and confirmed.
Remember your login name and check-in as soon as possible!
We've had a concerning amount of people who fail to remember their login name upon checking in. While we try and figure out what your login name is, there will probably be another ten gamers behind you who have remembered to do the right thing. Don't apologise to us - apologise to them. Once checked in, it is a requirement to display your player tag at all times. Don't lose your player tag or else you'll be required to pay your entry again.
Competitions
Competitions are as follows:
CS 5v5 1st place $50+ThermalTake V9 PC case PER PLAYER 2nd place: $25 PER PLAYER
DOTA 5v5: $250 first War3 1v1 $150 first $50 second COD4 5v5 $250 first
Other games will be played and arranged throughout the event. This will include the popular Flatout 2 game, along with some random first-to-100 deathmatch style games such as Quake 3 and UT2004. If anybody wants to arrange a game, come up the front and we'll try and get some people together for you.
All competitors are expected to report their results promptly and to be ready to play when asked. Disqualification may occur if a competitor risks delaying a competition.
PC Vendor & Sponsor - Centre Com
Centre Com will be arriving in the morning and will be selling PC hardware parts and accessories including LAN cables, hard drives and so on. If they don't have what you're after, there's a good chance that they may be able to bring the stock in the afternoon. If this is the case, we ask that you be patient. There are ATMs located within a five minute walk from the venue located on the university campus if you need some cash in a hurry.
Weather - or "sif run a LAN in the middle of summer, guys!"
The Bureau of Meteorology claims that Satuday will be a top of 21c and Sunday will be a warmer 26 however we take this with a grain of salt. Be aware that the venue has a very big cooling system capable of moving a lot of air - so your PCs will keep nice and cool even in the warmer conditions. As the venue does not have temperature-based climate control, there may be periods of time where the venue is cool and when the venue is warm. We suggest a jumper for these cool periods while we adjust the climate appropriately as this will vary throughout the event depending on the amount of PCs on and people in the venue.
Food/Pizza orders
Pizza orders need to be in and paid for by 4PM sharp. Ordering a pizza requires access to our intranet so please ensure you allow plenty of time to set up and order your pizza beforehand. These pizzas typically arrive at 7:30PM. We'll also be running a few BBQs throughout the event free of charge.
Banned equipment
Please note that due to power restrictions, Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS's), kettles, fans and any other devices likely to consume a large amount of power are not permitted. This also includes heaters (yes, we saw someone take a heater in once) and speakers (because they're not really useful if 400 people brought them). If we find a device is causing issues with our infrastructure, we reserve the right to remove the device. We do ask that any attendee comply with any request to unplug or remove a device as we will only do so if it's in the best interests of others. Remember, use your best judgement - because we'll be using ours.
Reserved seating.
We don't currently offer reserved or booked seating due to issues in the past - we've had to hold seats till well into Satuday evening, causing an inconvenience to all those who arrive early and struggle to find a space. We are actively pursuing options for our 11th event which may include pre-paying for booking seats however for this event we suggest you turn up early! After all, this will ensure you get the full value out of Respawn LAN.
Packing up/Cleaning
The event ends at 3PM Sunday and the majority of the event team will be pretty worn out! Please make sure that you keep your area clean by placing rubbish into bins provided and emptying any cans and bottles of liquid outside (do NOT place bottles with liquid in the bin). Keeping your area clean throughout the event also makes it a better experience for everyone and reduces the risk of spills and other accidents. When the time comes to pack up, we always appreciate any help with rolling up cables and packing up tables. We really do appreciate it a great deal.
Our sponsors and supporters - thanks!
We would not be in a position to offer such a high quality event if it wasn't for the wonderful support of our sponsors - Centre Com, who graciously give up their time playing games at the event to bring you the convenience of a leading retail brand to our community and ThermalTake, who have been supporting us since the beginning and are offering a massive five cases for our Counter-Strike: Source competition.
Respawn LAN is run voluntarily by all members of the team, the admin team, the gopher team and all those who help out. We really do appreciate everybody's effort in building the community to where it is today. We do value your feedback, especially positive feedback (it tells us what we're doing right, in case we might decide to do it differently) and we encourage everybody to post on our forums and let us know how we did.
See you there!
